I think Seoul could look enticing to travellers, but not to a resident. I would think that Tokyo is a truly cosmopolitan centre, whereas Seoul tends to lean more towards a cluttered collection space full of worker ants struggling to scrape through life...Seoul seems to exist just to get through life and no more...live a little people, please!!

Depends on the person. I love when I am in a good part of Seoul (Shinchon/HongDae) and hear a first-landed foreigner raving on and on about how great this place is at..

Or other times being in Jongno and hearing some businessman talking about how he doesn't understand why people say the nightlife is really good here.

this scares me. after i left canada so many of my friends said "DUDE i am so going to visit you man". i begged them not to, i gave them my refrain "it's an alright place to live, but i wouldn't want to visit".

a 2 week vacation in seoul, after being told it's the 'new tokyo' would be the biggest waste of money ever.

after living outside seoul for two years my impression from koreans and some other teachers was that seoul was the 'best' place in korea, it had everything blah, blah, blah. Anyway after living in shinchon for 2 weeks i realised it is basically the same as any nig city in the rest of korea- just more of it.
