All the Koreans were being super obnoxious at the gym to the point of being completely nauseating. I suppose I now know what people must feel like when they run into us rabid Team Canada hockey fans.

I know have a better understanding of why Europeans in Canada (particularly Russians) really loathe Canadian Hockey. Not so much the hockey itself but the nationalistic attitude of certain hardcare fans.

I came to Korea around World Cup time. Got caught up in the spirit of things. Bought myself a 'be the Reds' t-shirt. Even sang that song (you all know the one). Over time the overbearing nationalism really began to rub me the wrong way. Probably because it became interpolated with political nationalism, specifically anti-Americanism.

I know who I'll be cheering for the next time they play the Yanks (or Japan).

No kidding.

There's no difference between the Be the Reds thing and "that song" than those contemptably parochial "It's OUR Game" adverts the CBC used to run a few years ago.

I would say that the main difference is that one became highly politicized.

I also don't think hockey madness gripped the country like "be the Reds" madness did back in 2002. IMHO
