I'm sure that the same sort of thing goes on, just not to the extent the it does in Japan (which, from what I know about Japan, really isn't saying much). I'm sure there's a great deal of underaged prostitution here (the movie Samaria etc.) but I really don't think that "subsidized dating" is an institution here the way it is in Japan that and my students seem to be spending far too much time in hagwons to be getting too much action. |

I absolutely disagree. They might lie to you, the man, the potential boyfriend, but privately when they are asking me if it's worth it, and if I enjoy it, and does it hurt the first time... trust me, I know they are a virgin. You are WAY too cynical. Sure, meet a girl in a happening racy bar and she says she's a virgin I'd take it with a grain of salt, but there are a lot of "good girls" in Korea, a HECK of a lot, and the comfortably middle class, the ones with stay at home moms but not tons of excess money, they are the ones who are most likely to stay virgins a long time.
There is also a generation gap here on this one. Women in their thirties, it was really common to wait until at least a serious serious university boyfriend... younger women these days are more likely to do it earlier.
Other replies:
Japan does not compare with Korea.
Nothing wrong with sex with virgin men. They'll always remember you, they have lots of making up for lost time to do, and they are most likely to be STD free of any man you'll ever get naked with.
People who abstain till marriage should be respected, it's hard and they are really self-controlled. But I always think... test drive before you buy the car....

A little OT-ish... I think I'm living under a curse (although who it could have been to lay it on me, and why, is beyond me). Seriously. Every woman I've ever dated (yes, EVERY woman, without exception) has married the next guy after me. I scare them out of the dating pool altogether. 
I always joke with my female friends whenever they lament about the state of their marriage potential. I just suggest that the surest way to get married is to date me first. Next guy, guaranteed, is her husband.
