Do you actually think he gives a rats ass who buys his poison or what they do with it once they buy it?
Does he care if it ends up in a school? If it is used to hook a child into prostitution?
No...he didnt care...he obviously didnt care about his own life either.
My only sympathy goes to his family...I have none for the criminal! |

John Donne: Meditation XVII: No Man Is An Island
"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

Why?
Because I am involved in mankind.
Humanity is an abstraction. The human race is an idea too big for us to adequately comprehend.
The individual human being, as representative of the entire race, the entire species, the only truly intelligent lifeform we know of, is in a very real sense all that we have.
Capital punishment is thus a catastrophe. It makes no more sense than suicide.
I felt sick all day yesterday. While I sat and enjoyed an omelette breakfast, my fellow human being was blindfolded, roped, and destroyed. His spinal cord was snapped. He died for nothing.
I can't understand how anyone cannot be moved to feelings of pity and disgust and horror and dismay at the mere thought of it.
Twenty-five years old. His crime? Possession of an extract of the poppy flower. 400 grams. A plant made by God, given for the benefit of the sick and the suffering.
Can you imagine the psychological torment of knowing that you are scheduled to die a violent death tomorrow morning?
And knowing that society approves it.
You will be shown no mercy. Your neck will be snapped, you will die horrifically and brutally. You will never eat or drink or love again.
I suggest that we boycott Singapore. I will NEVER visit there, nor will I EVER AGAIN fly Singapore Air. I mean that very, very seriously too. I have a long memory. Singapore is out. A horrible, wicked, evil country which is guilty of nothing less than premeditated murder, the willful destruction of a human being on grounds which make absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Imagine a criminal mass-murdering psycopath who has somehow managed to acquire a small island, has run up a silly little flag with a few stars on it, proclaimed himself sovereign, and then set about murdering people in cold blood under the color of law. It's sick. It's demented. It makes me question everything. How can we have gone so wrong as a species that there even IS a Singapore in this world?
As for America, well, I left for many reasons. Brutality in the criminal "justice" system being one of them. I'm not going back.

You wish to enjoy retribution on Singapore yet you condemn Singapore for exacting retribution on a drug smuggler in a way they deem fit? You should be able to understand the rationale behind execution as you have a good grasp of moral superiority and thirst to punish those things you find reprehensible.
Horrible, wicked, evil country? Language like this undermines the entire liberal argument. Horrible Singapore for executing a junkie who was stupid enough to do what he did, fully aware of the consequences if caught? For heaven's sake.
My take on execution generally: feed the world's hungry with soup made from the meat of loathsome people. Kill two birds with one stone - get rid of our scum and get rid of famine.
Chewing gum and litter are ghastly. Singapore has some excellent ideas and is a beautiful, civilized, peaceful, safe city-state. |
Spinoza:
Maybe we can meet halfway on this issue.
The drug smuggler is taken into a very small, unventilated, windowless room deep in the bowels of Changgi prison.
He's strapped to a very hard chair.
He's allowed to sweat and fear for a good hour or more while he wonders what's coming.
Finally, a burly, scowling, evil-looking, baton-wielding prison guard enters the cell.
He invokes a gut-wrenching fear in the drug smuggler.
"Listen up, punk," the guard says. "By rights, we should KILL you! OK, punk? DO YOU GET IT? We should KILL your sorry ass, AND WE CAN DO IT RIGHT NOW, TODAY! DO YOU GET IT, BADASS? YOU ARE DEAD! DEAD! DEAD! You are DEAD TO RIGHTS HERE IN SINGAPORE, AND WE DON'T GIVE A CRAP! I SHOULD BEAT YOU TO DEATH RIGHT NOW!"
He takes a preliminary swing at the bound and gagged drug dealer. It may or may not miss.
"But guess what, punk? We're letting you go! We're sending your sorry-punk ass back to your sorry-punk mother in beep-ass effing Australia, OK? And we're doing it on one condition . . .
"We're doing it on the ONE CONDITION that you never, ever, EVER, set foot in Singapore EVER AGAIN! Because if you do, THAT'S IT! WE KILL YOU THEN! OK? UNDERSTAND! THIS COUNTRY IS DEATH FOR YOU! WE SHOULD KILL YOU RIGHT NOW! IF YOU EVER COME BACK HERE, EVER AGAIN, YOU DIE! GOT THAT, PUNK?"
Effectiveness: equal to the death penalty. The drug smuggler never sets foot in Singapore again, if he knows what's good for him.
Advantage: No unnecessary neck snapping. No needless barbarism.

Removing the undesirables ( murderers, rapists, terrorists/murderers)from the gene pool isn't murder, it's a service to our progeny...ie. the next generation.
I'm sorry if I've offended anyone but it's simple. Don't let them waste taxpayers $ supporting them in prison and don't let them breed. There are way too may convicts allowed to live to ripe old ages in the States and have conjigal visits thus producing offsprings. |
