Actually I have a Filipina girlfriend from Daegu. I was in the Philippines last year and I was blown away by the attitudes of the women there. Of course like in every culture there are good and bad ones but it was my observation that there are lots of good ones in comparison. You have some intersting observs as well and I'm sure a lot of insight as you have lived there for so long. I have just met so many guys that have been kicked in the nuts by Russian women that I almost lost count. And the wierd thing is we ALL have the SAME stories! It is really unsettling to listen to a person qualifying as a complete stranger sit down and start giving you what could just as well be the finite details of the past however many years of your life! Deja vous! Anyway I've been stung but I wouldn't trade the happiest years of my marriage for anything in the world. And when it comes right down to it, I would probably dive back in and take a Russian gal over an American. The biggest trial of my marriage was my wife being torn between actually being my wife or bowing to her relatives every whim offered in the form of advice from people who live 8,000 miles away and have never set foot in America. If you could actually keep her away from them it was ok but that is next to impossible.

All very interesting.

I've been spottily reading this thread.. and whats up with a Russian kicking some guy in the balls!!

Honestly, one night myself and Zed (another daves poster).. we were sitting at Seoul Pub and were talking to about 5 Russians and a couple other people. I was sitting next to a Russian girl and we were just having an interesting conversation. Suddenly from about four people down, another Russian girl attempted to kick me in the head! I blocked it. Everyone kind of looked at her, looked at me, the girl I was next to apologized, I said 'no problem, whatever'. Then proceeded to just enjoy the conversation again and two minutes later, another attempted kick to the head by the girl 4 seats down.

I just got up and left.. sat at the bar. That entire table proceeded to leave 5 minutes later.. and the girl I was talking to apologized again for the weirdness of her friend, and gave me her phone number. That was that.. but man, it was weird!!

And regarding Philippines and Filipinas and how different they are. Damn right.. I'm in the Philippines right now.

Off topic, but Faludy Gyorgy was born in 1910, so he will turn only 96 in September and Kovacs Fanny (his wife) is 30. Not that it would make any difference though.

Alexandra,

Thanks for the correction!!! I was writing off the top of my head and knew Faludi was born sometime just after 1900......I hope he lives another 100 years, had the pleasure of meeting him in the early 80s in Toronto. Erudite and engaging as they come...love his autobiography, "My happy days in hell" but besides the poetry and his love of knowledge, his previous wives, I think his biography on Erasmus of Rotterdam one of the best bios ever written...

Glad to hear someone else has heard and enjoyed Faludi.

Geez, she tried to kick you? I wonder what would've happened had she landed the kick. Did the Gecko's staff see it? Most places would've kicked her out, I presume.

This is the story that happened during the world cup 2006.

I happened to stop by some bar in itaewon. a lot of russian models were dancing on the dance floor. a bunch of western guys were staring at them with their arms folded. actually many guys tend to think that models are high-nosed.(which is not true) so seemed none of them dare to approach them.

I called the korean bartender and asked if he knows those models. he said yes. so i said "ok can you bring those models to me? I'll give you a tip" then he said with smile "no that's ok , i don't need a tip , just order some drinks"

So i ordered Ballentine 30 yr old. anyway he brought 2 russian models
to me. The liquor set their tongue wagging. they said they are 19 yrs old and they are supporting korean soccer team. we danced shouting
" Oh~pilseung Korea "

finally they were so drunk and one girl suddenly bursted into tears.
i asked her why shes crying. she said she miss her home and her mother.
i soothed the crying baby and asked her to watch some movie at my place. she agreed but she insisted on coming to my place with her friend which is totally nonsense to me.

anyway i didn't have any choice but to bring all two girls to my place. i took a taxi and the taxi driver ajossi asked me if they are prostitute and i'm gonna do threesome tonight which made me really pissed off.

anyway, when they hear what the taxi driver said(i guess they probably understood what he was talking cause they speak some korean), they said they just want to go their home.

so i just took them to their apartment and came back.
anyway i dated her later on for 2 weeks till she left korea.
she promised to come back but never came back.

Just curious. I've seen a couple fine looking girls around Seoul and on television.

They were hot in a way that I haven't found girls hot for maybe a few months... piercings, skinny, blonde, tatoos, kind of non-english-teachery-looking.

Piercings, skinny, blonde, with tattoos? I wouldn't call that "hot." I know, I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I lived in Moscow for about 8 months in 1999 brother Endo and basically started going out with the beautiful Anna. The best thing about it was that her wonderful family invited me into their home and you know that was a great thing, the whole episode highlighted how pointless the cold war was and what fine people the Russians are.

Russian women are very straightforward. If they like you - then you know about it. Even when you stare at them on the escalator - they will just stare back at you and you have to turn away! Also by the same token, if a Russian women doesn't like you - then you know about it. The game playing comes later within a relationship but it happens. Russian women don't tend to waste time with blokes they have no interest in.

Also, in the nightclubs there - there is no VIP lounges - in Moscow, around halfway through the show - the DJ stops playing his turgid Russian pop music and 'mambo no5' by Louie Vega (a popular choice in Moscow around that time) they usually have a catwalk show on stage - afterwards the models (proper ones!) went and danced with the plebs! Something that would never ever happen in England!

Russian women get a bad rep for some reason! I think they are the greatest women in the world! Smart, intelligent and loyal! Cool

Frankly, the best experience I had in terms of dating was with a Russian girl. She was very kind, warm, attentive, and it wasn't all about what she could get and all. She was very sweet to me, and I appreciated it. She loved sending me letters and all. I wish more women were like that in North America, but, unfortunately, I haven't seen that. They say Russians only smile when they mean it. I have talked to many awesome Russian women. I think many of them are quite often down-to-Earth and modest, and they like to do things for their man. I am just basing it on the fact that I dated one and have had Russian friends. I also really enjoyed my male Russian friends and hanging out with them. They were a blast.

I met a Russian sports coach and his wife in Taiwan. Taiwan was trying to gain recognition via sport and was actively encouraging top sportsmen.

Anyway, I was struck by how beautiful the Russian language is. Sounds better than French!!

He taught me many things and was a sophisticated chap, actually a doctor
of physical education, though I couldn't guage the quality visa vis western doctorates. As I say I learned a bunch from him. A 20 year old female canoeist came to live with them as a protege. She was a complete bombshell, a knockout and i used to clutch at my chest everytime upon meeting her. I thought to myself how the Germans imagined that these were untermenshen was beyond me.

In some areas they let themselves down. I decided to treat them and take the three of them to see that movie about the Russian sniper, Jude Law the actor. Blow me down if he doesn't waggle a finger at me and say gravely "propaganda".

They loved to be invited to dos by Taiwan administrators and he would positively preen. And loved to receive gifts as if all Russians are victims and should be compensated.

That taxi drive needs a severe ass kickin'.

I guess I can understand why he might think that, but to say it openly Mad

Great post.

Filipinas are another one, I bet people could come together and tell many of the same things about their relationships with Filipinas, and most things said would be quite positive.

I have found the Russian girls I dated in the past comfortable to get along with. I like some of their traditional values and their straightforwardness, and there is not much pretentious behavior in their culture. That can be refreshing. There are great women all over the world, and people have different tastes and preferences. I like good women who are straightforward, laid-back, and easy to talk to. That is more important than where they come from.

Wow, so many stereotypes going on here. Russian women come in all varieties just like any other women in the world. With any women who are really good-looking, there's bound to be some big egos whether they're Russian or not. And there are a lot of gorgeous Russian women out there. Many of them do have traditional values, are well educated, hard-working and are not tramps. I grew up around Russians. They tend to stick to their own but overall, they're very friendly.
