The problem I have is with some *beep* trumping his opinions because he "isn't biased".

Rest assured, I'm not referring to George Friedman. He clearly states that this is his/stratfor's view. I AM questioning any poster on this forum who is so arrogant as to present his/her views as "unbiased".

He's trumping his opinions because he agrees with them. But, I'd argue that Friedman is pretty disinterested as far as politics or part goes. Have you read some of his analysis?

I'd agree that Friedman is disinterested in politics per se, and I have read articles "declassified" from being only available to subscribers.

Remember, though, that Stratfor is a commercial enterprise that profits from providing "security". That doesn't make it some wholly disinterested entity simply providing "unbiased" analysis.

A case in point: Friedman, in his 2005 analysis suggests that "enemies of Bush" were claiming that personal revenge for the assassination attempt on Bush senior were a reason for the Iraq war. As someone who's been involved in discussion of the Iraq war since 2003, I haven't really heard this as a prominent anti-war argument anymore than it has been a pro-war argument.

First of all, labeling someone an "enemy of Bush" is a loaded label.

Secondly, didn't Bush cite this assassination attempt before the UN assembly as a reason for war? Why is it now being pinned on "enemies"?

And that's why listening to stratfor podcasts doesn't really give anyone some superior perspective. It's a good resource. Share the ideas. Leave it at that.
