I teach at a school attached to an Education University. I had the pleasure of sophmore education majors sitting in on my classes for a week (the vast majority of them were not English majors) last month. I will soon have to miss out on a week of classtime to let these babes in the woods teach my classes. On top of that, I have the classroom with double sided glass for observations by the principal, vice principal, parents and whoever else wants to observe the freak show...I mean foreign teacher.

Twice a year observations sounds divine to me.

Urban Myth,

Oh touche... Laughing

Anyways, what time limit will people have for the demo classes?I'm at a middle school and I'll keep it to 45 minutes as per a normal class.Demo classes I saw last year were well over an hour.
I haven't talked to the co-teacher I'll be doing it with yet though...

What do other teachers schools expect them to do for it?

There's no way I'm compiling a 25 page handout....thats just overkill.

So no, we aren't showing movie clips or stuff like that because I don't do that in my regular class. The other teachers have agreed that we will over praise these types of classes.

So in other words you will be backstabbing those foreigners who do do what you consider to be "dog and pony show classes"? Even those who are newbies and unsure of what exactly to do, agree with the KT about these classes. Or someone who feels that his or her relationship with the school depends in some part (real or imagined) on a polished showing?

I hope you live in my area. Because I am printing out this thread and saving it. Anyone who wants to complain about my open classes because (in their opinion) it is a "dog and pony show" is going to face questions from the Gyenoggi officials there whom I will show this thread to as proof that this/these foreigners are part of a group that is attempting to sabotage their program (yes I will use those exact words).

What gives YOU (and your friends) the right to decide what is a "dog and pony show"? If you don't want to do one fine. But don't attempt to decide by intimidation what other people should do or not do. If you do, don't be surprised if they resort to the same tactics. If you want to attack dog and pony shows at least be honest and say it outright.

Quite frankly I'm surprised. Putting someone's liveihood in danger, simply because you are mad at having to do open classes is underhanded and disgusting behaviour, and I would have thought you were above that.

You just love stirring the pot, don't you?

It had nothing to do with stirring the pot. That is what YOU are doing now.

My opinion was given because CLG and her friends decided they would attack anyone giving a 'dog and pony show'. That to me is above the pale.

IF I had been stirring the pot I would have tossed out a sarcastic one-liner...much along the lines of what you are doing now.

As far I am concerned that has been settled , and now here you come along trying to stir up trouble again. Rolling Eyes

I'm talking generally. You often come into a thread and just make waves. It's your MO. I could go into your posting history and prove it, if you really want me to. There are nice ways of disagreeing with people, but you choose to stir it up with some aggressive answers to others' posts, like above.

Hey, it's your perogative (sp?). Just pointing it out to you.

Why you took this route to disagree with this poster - only you know the answer. Hell, if nothing else, it certainly is entertaining...

Which is why I said in my NEXT paragraph, "But don't attempt to decide by intimidation what other people should do or not do. If you do don't be surprised if they resort to the same tactics" (italics mine)

In other words if they are going to attack me for doing what amounts to a "dog and pony show" (in THEIR opinion) they have no right to complain should I employ similar tactics.

As for making waves, nonsense. If people post racist or xenophobic or outright nonsense on these boards, yes I will respond strongly. But most of the time no.

And again this matter as far as I am concerned is settled. So why bring it up by stirring the pot so to speak? What's it to you? Seriously?

It's a messageboard, don't take it so seriously. You have never met me, nor I you. Do you REALLY care about my opinion? If other posters who I respond to wish to defend themselves that's their choice. As far as aggressive messages go, I could probably find quite a few of yours. Hint: "spiderman, spiderman, does whatever a spider can"

So, you agree that you sank to the level you so vehemently abhor?

Again, I was talking generally. You often go after people on this board, for no other reason than to show your righteousness. Yet, you do exactly what you accuse other posters of doing - which doesn't give you a leg to stand on. And you do this often, to many posters. It's getting old.

As for spiderman, yes, I had a little flame war with him. The guy was an absolute moron and I had a little fun with him. Guilty as charged. Can you admit as much?

Seriously? You really want to know? Ok. I just want you to see what you do on this board. You stir the pot. You go after other posters for things you consider wrong, yet you use the same exact tactics you denounce. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I'd just like you to look at it objectively, and admit it. What's so hard about that?

Ok, ball's in your court. Let's see you wriggle and rationalize and do what it is you do best.

(numbers are mine)

1. What? If people attack me I will defend myself. But in this instance I am not backstabbing my colleagues, I am merely pointing out their sabotage of a program which employs them and myself. That is justified particularly if they are attempting to damage (in any way) my liveihood.

I suppose you would just stand there and take one for the team?
Sorry, I don't tick that way.

2. If people make statements of racism and xenophobiam that annoys me greatly. I like this board and that kind of talk really has no place here. I do it not to show any "rightness" merely to state my opinion. The fact that my opinion tends to be strongly worded is merely a result that the opinion I am replying to is also strongly worded. Anyway if I went overboard so often as you think I do the mods would have banned or at least warned me.
What racist or xenophobic comments have I made?

3. Glad to see you admit it. That being the case don't you think it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black? What gives YOU a leg to stand on?

Anyway if we keep hijacking this thread it is likely to be closed. If you have a problem with me personally, take it to PM. If other posters have a problem with me, I think they can defend themselves.

My flame war with spidey was for fun. I wasn't upset, I was having a bit of fun with a troll, much like I'm doing now.

Your responses to posters are serious. You actually threatened to copy this thread and show it to officials to get CLG et al in trouble. Right afterwards, in the same post, you accuse them of disgusting behaviour for threatening the livelihood of others. C'mon man, that's pretty blatant.

As for the xenophobic/racist comments - I never accused you of that. You're getting off topic. Again, I never said that you made xenophobic/racist comments. I never accused you of that. Why bring it up and ask me to find your xenophobic/racist comments?

What I did accuse you of is stirring the pot, aggressively going after other posters and using tactics you supposedly find disgusting in others.

I stirred the pot with spidey - in jest - for fun - and spidey was an entertaining troll. You, on the other hand, make it your MO, you do it again and again.

All I'm doing is pointing out the obvious, but your blinders are on, and you just can't bring yourself to admit your behaviour on this board is confrontational. And you do it in all seriousness.

Your turn. Wink

Didn't you know? Everything TheUrbanMyth does is perfect. He can do no wrong. All his arguments are 100% correct.

As far as the printing of this thread and showing it to school officials, that left me a little miffed. Why would someone say this? Why would anyone care about what people are saying about class demos on a forum?

Yes, it is just a forum. That's why TUB's comments (threats) totally contradict his reply in stating such. I don't think anyone on here was threatening his livelyhood. What a joke.

If by "he" you mean "she," then you are correct. TUM is female. I also would like to add that more posters than ms. Tum reply with hostility to certain posts. While most people understand that emotion can distract from a debate, in a forum such as this, feeling is what keeps the masses reading. I would chose Dave's over an object report of ESL anytime. Reason being, because you people are hilarious.
