It's mostly just men in general. Let's face it people, women's rights have still not been fully granted and we're stupid if we think that they have. Don't get me wrong, I'm a man and I don't agree with feminism in it's entirety but there are many truths to it and mostly, it's that sexism predominates nearly all cultures. Same goes for racism."
Agreed.
This woman's unfortunate situation should not be used to attack an entire group. She may be attempting to do so, but that is the unfortunate but common reaction of many who have been victimized or abused in some way. The rest of us should sympathize with her, even if we think she could have avoided some of what happened to her.
It is wrong for others to use this story to castigate any race or religion based on the actions of a few. It is also wrong to deny the truth of the suffering of the victim based on her radicalized appeal. To use this woman's story to support one side of an agenda or to deny her story to support the other side is to victimize her again. We should let her statement stand for what it is - the emotional feelings of a victim in the aftermath of her victimization.
I posted my story in support of her, that what she is saying could be true as I have witnessed similar events as they occured. I do not believe that a majority of Arab/Moslem men treat women as this woman has reported. I do believe that "birds of a feather flock together" and that she may have met a group who treated her this way, just as I experienced a group who behaved and believed in a like manner. Her abuse by such a man or group will color her view of the world, probably for the rest of her life. |

Well OK the PC fanatics are out the box once again. Ok then....whatever...scrub the entire article, its all lie told by someone just for the hell of it. She made it up to gain bandwidth, everybody in every culture is the same,. Bla blah.
I think most people here are simply projecting their western notions onto a void that has no personal experience. As i say, write off the story if you will. Thats all it is: a story. You say there is no truth in it. If you want to persist in believing all cultures are the same and cannot possibly imagine anyone thinking differently, so be it and good luck. And start dusting off your bhurkas. |

Arab men may be pretty macho but I don't think they're into group sex.
The article is a fake.
I also think islam is a repulsive religion, but then again I feel the same way about evengelical christianity. |

| There is a reason, it's called propaganda. You are so reactionary you havent even taken the time to consider that Im not supporting Islam. I think the issues raised in the article about the way the Koran supports the oppression of women are serious. I just don't support propaganda and I don't believe the article has a ring of truth about it. |

As someone who knows something about Arabs, having been around them, here is something many Americans can relate to - well-behaved whites, rednecks, and white-trailer park trash.
There are Arabs who behave well and come from elite or middle class backgrounds and from generations of people who were educated and well-behaved. Then, you have the Arab trash who use a mixture of religion, their desires and act very badly. That is similar to the behaviour of many in the South as well among rednecks. I used to work in a redneck area, and I used to hear crazy stories from both men and women.
I also should state that there are some Arabs who would refuse to hang out with certain Arabs. That Canadian girl, presumably, dated the kind of Arab trash some other Arabs wouldn't be caught dead with. If they were all the Borg and the same and had the same thoughts, then why would some groups avoid other groups? They aren't aliens. They are human beings. And this analysis of them is alien to logic and common sense. Having the logic of junior is like saying someone from a good, moderate neighborhood in Toronto wants to be hanging out with a closed-minded fellow from a rural area of Alberta or Ontario, not that most there would be that way. Anyway, there are 22 Arab countries and attitudes towards women would vary from state to state. For example, Syrians would probably be much more open than Egyptians as evidence by far less women wearing head-scarves, a vibrant Socialist party etc.... |

Satori's probably right about Junior's article ... but even if it is based on the author's experience (with one guy or several, who knows?), it's still a bigoted, poorly written piece of crap that should have been deleted long ago. The original post in this thread was a case of trolling at its worst.
I didn't get through much of Big Bird's article (I've got things to do), but based on the parts I've read so far, I totally disagree with Satori that it belongs in the same category. I hope I get a chance to read it soon, because it looks very informative. I don't follow the discussions here as closely as I probably should, but Big Bird always comes across as a very well-informed, intelligent, civil poster and I don't think she deserves that kind of attack.
But oh well ... this is Dave's, isn't it? |

Haven't been to syria recently have you? The Abaya is becoming more and more popular there.
Syria is odd like that: some women dress about as western as you get while some go all out to copy their Iranian sisters.

Yeah, but they don't give a *beep* about the lower classes and have no problem screwing them over. And yes, I know, that's a massive generalization. I always felt uncomfortable being in rich neighborhoods in Arab countries because you know in order to become rich in the Middle East you have to participate in corruption in one way or another.
The Middle East is one of the best examples out there of what corruption and heavy regulation can do to a country's development. |

A few years ago there was congrsessional hearings in DC over an issue where Arab men would romance an impregnate American women and then steal the children away to Saudi Arabia leaving the American women behind, streched out, older and sobbing.
In Europe, some European girls go head over heals for Arab men and they provide their most valuable asset they have, that being their mouths and vaginas to keep their boyfriends happy and together with them. When asked if the Arabs would ever marry their girlfriends, they would answer "no" because European women are too "slutty". |

Mods, if you have any semblance of decency, ban this asshole! I say that sincerely, he's been given chance upon chance to talk about issues in a respectful or even approaching that manner. Ban his IP address, or this current events forum is just becoming a place for hate mongers to parade their wares.

How is it then that people can post gruesome pics of palestinians killed in the fighting by the IDF?
By contrast I posted a picture of a palestinian suicide bomber posing in a chair. I also posted a pic of an israeli soldier (see avatar). They were removed immediately. Its unbalanced. This forum is pro muslim and anti israeli. Its also inflicted by people such as yourself who are too afraid to admit that Islam has any dark side whatsoever, and reality is best swept under the carpet. L engthy descriptions of innocent palestinian victims is quite OK though apparently. |

This is just more ammunition , reinforcing how Monoculture and crazed you view the world. Oh poor unfortunate you! You can't spread hatred against Muslims and say every Muslim male just made a deal with the devil and wants to rape all white women and prays at night for the downfall of all evil white men................ I'd rather you had sugar plums dancing in your head but like i've stated again and again, will shoot down your unicolour world, in favour of my kodachrome, even if it is capitalist and western..........proud of that.
I don't think any culture is free of bigotry or error, or racism, or stupidity, or evil.................you however and dulouz in particular, say awful things that have no PARTICULAR relevance other than to show you have no clothes and to show you are bent on viewing "people" not by their actions but by the thought of what you BELIEVE they believe. Stop playing god and grow up. Adulthood begins when after childhood and believing we are all so different, we start to journey and see that we are all very similiar, despite our apparent wish for uniqueness.........
