Maybe the topic name should be changed to "Athiest Love Fest" as you all seem to love bringing this topic up every month or two.
Just an innocent question "why do athiests feel the need to re-educate christians?", "why can't you just go on with your lives and ignore the christians if you don't like them?" |
If you hadn't noticed, this is an internet forum where people discuss things; Christians post things and Athiests post things, it's what happens on forums.
However, I ignore Christians when they talk to me on the streets.
I felt a little bad for not shaking this black missionaries hand the other day in Itaewon, but it would have been a coercive handshake made under duress so it had to be done I guess. |

Holy smokes. Did I read that correctly summer wine? Why can't we leave Christians alone? Why can't we just go on our merry way? That is exactly what we do. I have NEVER harassed a Christian on the subway or pushed atheist literature into their hands. I have NEVER knocked on a strangers door to tell them the good news of atheism. I have never sat beside a person on a subway who was happily reading only to bother them with fantastic stories about Darwin. I have never got a bunch of atheist friends to hang out in Itaewon on Saturday evenings to sing annoying atheist hymns. I have never gone up to strangers in a supermarket and asked them 'Are you an atheist?" I have never had the audacity to tell people who disagree with about the origins of the universe that they will burn in a lake of fire for eternity. And that this is a good thing; a sign of Darwin's 'love'.
If Christians want to be left alone...

But let's get back to arguing from facts. A fantastic whopper that Christians say is, "There are no contradictions or errors in the bible." One must be completely ignorant of the bible, of substandard intelligence, or thoroughly indoctrinated to believe this. How someone with a university degree can state that there are no errors or contradictions in the bible is one of the truly amazing things about Christians. Even when the contradictions are pointed out (by the hundreds) they still hold onto their
fantasies.
Here are two websites. One has been posted before (more than once) but it is worthwhile posting again for persons new to this site. The other may or may not have been posted earlier.
Contradictions in the bible.

Philip James - You must have one of those faces that just attracts them. I have been here over 5 years and can count the times on 2 hands that some one has got in my face.
I can also count on one hand the times it really upset me. Look just ignore them. Push past, tell them you cant speak english or Korean.
Or really confuse them. If they ask me if I am a christian I tell them "I don't believe that one can call themselves a christian unless a person lives as one and until that time, I can't call myself a christian". In most cases they just stand there with a dumb look on thier face and then walk off.
I read athiest, muslim, buddhist etc arguments because they provide information and then continue on with my life. I don't get worked up about it or keep count off how many times since I first took the dummy out of my mouth that someone has pushed an idea upon me.
But in truth, Athiests whether on this board, on television, in books, movies etc push thier ideas upon others. Its just that you agree with those ideas that makes it harder for you to identify them as athiestic, whereby you know what you disagree with and can label it as christian.
Just take a breath, have a drink and realise that 2000 years ago people were christians and believed in God even though there were those who didn't. 100 years ago there were christians and those who disagreed with them and unless things change excessively, there will be christians, today and 2000 years from now and people who disagree with them.
I mean unless you evision a final solution for christians and thats been tried in the past, they will be here flogging thier ideas just like thier are athiests flogging thier ideas. Each to his own. |

Many do, I don't, do you?
If so bye!!! If not welcome!!
Most of us are confused by what we see as a delusion. Many of us come from Christian backgrounds and may feel a personal need to argue against something we feel was a lie in our upbringing. Sometimes it is just fun to mock the ridiculous. What we all need to learn is to consider the possibility that what we believe could be wrong. I don't believe in God, I could be wrong.
I have never felt persecuted by religion but have felt lied. I see the damage that religion does happening on a wider scale whether it's suicide bombers, over zealous political leaders or crack pot fundamentalists.
Do atheists push their ideas? Sure. Why sit back and let irrationality have a monopoly on the airwaves?
But atheists in the media do so in a non-aggressive or threatening way. |

Do you really believe that? Mockery and ridicule give way to violence and hatred. |

If that were true, then most comedians would be mass murderers or serial killers.
On the contrary, humour is an excellent way to defuse anger. |

Might as well, the jury is apparently still out as to whether we'll go to hell for drinking alcohol...not that there is one. |
