sorry to re-hijack the thread to the original subject. i think this is an interesting topic. i'd like to say im pretty observant when it comes to gyopos since i am one myself. and can spot one a mile away.
canadian gyopos seem to be more "asian"-ized than their american counter parts. by this.. i mean their style of dress, values, friends they hang out with. they seem to be open to hanging out with people of diff cultures than their own in korea. you can figure out a canadian gyopo within the first 5 mins of talking with them because of the "EH".
texas/mid-west gyopos are similar to LA gyopos in appearance. but if you listen carefully, their southern accent is a dead give away. they adopt a lot of black and hispanic culture and values. they are quite "liberal". i usually find see a lot of the females in the clubs shaking money makers in the clubs usually with the LA variety.
north eastern/nyc gyopos are more buttoned up (literally and figuratively). they dress a little more professional or sleeker. they seem a little more educated and are noticably more career oriented and ambitious than the other gyopo counterparts. it could have a lot to do with their upbringing as the first generation of korean immigrants that settle in NE america were probably quite well educated and place a high importance in schooling. these gyopos are more likely to be more white washed than other gyopos.
california gyopos (kali gyopos) are the easiest to identify. talk loudly in english where ever they are and can be quite obnoxious (this varies in relation to their alcohol consumption). they are usually quite tanned. a dead give away for males is their baggy clothes and have gelled spiky hair. basically.. its like they are stuck in the 90's. cali gyopos may talk slower, have a drawl and some sound like they were born in the hard streets of koreatown or oakland even tho they grew up in a cushy suburban area like orange county or cerritos. they hang with other kali gyopos in the clubs. and are often quite angry at white people and korean people. but they consider themselves "american" or korean whenever convenient.
gyopos.. regardless where they are from, its quite embarrassing to see their entitlement attitude they have in korea. it could be because they carry a chip on their shoulder. they are not fully accepted in western society and not fully accepted in korean society (depending on their fluency).
these are just my opinions and obviously generalizations. of course there are always exceptions to the rule. i met a lot of awesome ppl regardless they are from. |

^ ur from chicago huh?
have u guys met any brazilian or argentinian or russian kyopos? pretty cool peoples. the ones from sakalin have some crazy history.
about the NE kyopo thing, they're like that because NYC in general is more jungle competitive. so in a way its more like seoul... the ones from chicago seem to speak less korean than the ones from NYC tho... but chicago kyopos are more down to earth.
i think the korean fluency thing can be directly correlated with the KKK factor. the more KKK there is in that region, the less Korean they speak. Places like LA have no KKK at all anywhere in the City of Angels, so there is more korean fluency. |

Thanks for bringing this back to topic. I had given up this thread for loss.
Canadian gyopos...I can never really tell if they are REALLY Canadian or actually Koreans who just happened to live there for just enough years recently to pull off calling themselves Canadian.
More upscale, ambitious...I noticed that with New York AND Chicago. They seem to be more in-tune with what a good education can give you, and how to open up doors in the real world and know how and do become successful in whatever they want.
L.A....yeah, you pretty much nailed that perfectly. Actually your whole post follows very strongly with what it seems to me as well in observation. |

Just IMHO, with over 20 years of experience...and these are generalizations...
For N. America -
West Coast = Huge chip on the shoulder; some type of complex; tough to take in all but small doses.
East Coast = Highly cool; few if any issues
All point inbetween: Cool, especially in the south. |

Actually, Canadian gyopos are worse at talking loudly and obnoxiously. Never seen such big show offs who are so bent on drinking and going off the deep end. Most of the time I just want them to shut up and get the hell away, because being around them is really embarrassing. |

haha... i don't think where i am from has anything to do with it. but if it will soothe your curiousity.. no. im not from chicago. actually, i haven't met enough people from there to make a generalization. ive only met maybe two in my lifetime?
of course everybody has their own personal experiences, but i sure hope you don't base your judgements from just one tigerbluekitty. my observations aren't from just one encounter or group. its a trend i seen from frequent visits to korea since i was young. going to school for a couple semesters at yonsei, a lot of late nights running into all sorts of crowds and now living and teaching here. i would have to disagree with you that i think most canadian gyopos are quite down to earth and quite often polite/considerate.

As a Cali/LA gyopo, I can attest to the wannabe gangster stereotype (think Crown J).
But honestly, it's not just the gyopos in LA. Everyone in LA tries to be a character, regardless of ethnic background. |

I agree, and it's not necessarily a bad thing, but I can see how others feel that way. Also, I don't know of gyopos hanging out exclusively with each other - in Cali, most Asian groups are mixed. No real discrimination towards each other after high school, or jr. high |

Thats true. LA/cali gyopos are not the same as everyone else.
I'm a gyopo and I have a dislike for LA gyopo's. Some of them might be cool, but all the ones I've met try to act black hiphop. |
Yeah, that's annoying.
