Been following this thread while in semi-exile. Like many topics it has traveled off course and back on, then back off. I have to say that it happens all the time! Because this is not a formal debating society and more like some kind of weird new way to converse. Many topics branch out wander off track just like when you are in a pub or coffee house. People get angry, gauntlets are thrown then retracted. Laughing Nothing new.

So what? Discourse is good! Maligning a person's family not so good. Insult me all you want...Start in with my family and you might have a verbal a$$ kicking coming your way...since I can't do it personally. I can complain, pi$$ and moan about my family all I want but they are my family. You (in the collective) can't. And unless some member of my family killed your dog or knocked up your sister you best leave them out of a public fray. Sorry but them's the rules in my mind.

You can call me an aging hippie, crazy, feminazi, female dog, peacenick, gun crazed, gun totin' liberal with an agenda...or a imperialist pig american dog, I don't give a good tinkers damn. But my family is off limits. That's just how I feel.

No one has to like it but to pretend that topics are so narrow that some feel the need to shake one's finger like a prim, lace collared aunty from the 1890's and talk about "hijacking" a thread is a bit...well in a word...lame. Good lord it's a bulletin board. So what? It got off topic. Sun came up this morning and no one had to die so get over it. Steer the conversation back on topic and move on.

Who is jaderedux2?

Who joined 5 days ago, by the way ... offhand, sounds a little like someone going on kermo's vegetarian site and pretending to be The Bobster.

Long story but suffice it to say DO NOT CHANGE YOUR EMAIL notifier on your profile page. They deactivate you. I begged pleaded to be reactivated but to no avail. So I registered. I am now Jaderedux2 but in my heart and mind always just plain old jaderedux.

Yes, one of the mods warned me about this. It's a glitch in the system. If you want to change your email, contact the mods and they will advise you. I think it can be done, but it has to be done by Dave himself.

What a surprise. No one wantes to talk about Dua Khalil or Maya Angelou or anyone else who REALLY has had to deal with misogyny in this ugly world.

I don't blame you. Makes all the whining about men expressing their opinions honestly - even if the opinions that are expressed are lameass and "insensitive" - pale in comparison to the women in the world who have ACTUALLY suffered and died, or overcame their suffering to show the rest of us what excellence and wonderfulness truly is.

Yeah, don't blame anyone for not wanting to talk about these women ...

Mad

I'll be honest, though. Part of me DOES blame you. You wanna talk about pain and hate, you need to talk about real pain and hate, not just getting your feelings hurt because someone said something that was impolite or something you don't agree with.

As other posters have already pointed out...this is not a site for serious discussions. It's for mostly for whining about trival things and bashing people who don't agree with said whiner. Now that's sad...but that's the way it is.

If you really want to talk about this, you might try searching for some serious political/current issues sites.

The main thought I carried away from this discussion was that many feminists will go through elaborate linguistic and philosophical contortions to avoid the label "feminist." I'm not sure why.

That just might be a suitable topic for a fresh discussion. I've seen one or two on this thread claim they'd rather not "self-identify" as a feminist, and it's curious to know why. Others, like the magnificent and glorious jade are happy and proud to do and quite able to explain why.

I'm a man, and I call myself a feminist. And I know there are some women who will be skeptical or even say it's patently impossible. Because I'm a man, you see. Well, I don't agree. I think some men are more feminist than some women.

Maybe another thread would be in order, yeah ...

Maybe some of us are just sick of talking to you. Did that ever occur to you?

Maybe you have nothing important to say about Dua Khalil or Maya Angelou. Maybe you have nothing important to say about anything. Maybe you are only here to insult people you don't like.

Even if you claim to be sick of talking to me, I notice you still are, and I don't notice you vomiting any more than usual. Go back and look at your posts on this thread - not ONE single word on-topic about misogyny and hypocrisy. Not even ONE word.

Did that ever occur to you, even once? Even while accusing me of thread-hijacking?

*Note: Dearest mods, please do not lock this right away. I feel like this is a different angle on the misogyny thread that does not involve personal attacks/playing a game of who's the troll. Also, I think this is a serious topic which is quite important to me and deserves a second chance at serious discussion.

In general, I've been keeping out of the male vs. female threads, because I have up to this point felt like it has mostly been a lot of online d*ck waving. But something about this board has been bothering me a lot lately and I've finally figured out what it is.

In one of the threads, kermo said that she had kept her identity as a female secret for a long time. This made me really sad, because it is the same reason that many women avoid calling themselves a "feminist." As soon as you say the word "feminist," some men (and a few women, too) are going to start screaming FEMINAZI. But feminism isn't about being better than men or hating men or burning bras. Real feminism is just the simple concept that women are different than men, but capable of doing the same things as men and equal. Not really such a radical concept.

This gets into tricky territory for me because as well as being a feminist to the core, I am also a big proponent of free speech. So if you want to say hateful things, that's your problem, not mine. You are the one who comes across as a spiteful, bitter loser. There have been several posts to the tune of "If you dress like a sl*t, you are a sl*t." It's true that a person needs to be aware that the clothes they wear reflect their personality, whether that reflection is true or not. If you see a woman wearing a short skirt, think to yourself that she must surely be a big sl*t. Whatever. That's your prerogative. However, that does not give you the right to harass, catcall, or, heaven forbid, sexually assault someone. Having worked in a rape crisis center before, I know that placing the blame on the victim is one of the most psychologically damaging things you can do to a person, man or woman. (Yes, you big strong men can get raped, too.)

But lastly, and most importantly, of all men on the planet, white men working in Korea should not be so misogynistic. The most common complaints on these boards involve being stared at for being a foreigner, being treated as nothing more than an English speaking dancing robot, having a point of view that isn't listened to in the workplace and in the government. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those are exactly the same things that women have to deal with. Being stared at, being treated like an object, not being treated seriously/being dismissed. When you feel like you are being mistreated by Koreans, surprise! You know what it feels like to be a woman. Does it feel sh*tty when people treat you like you have only one function in life? Congratulations, you're a feminist.

Laughing i think this post alone has made my entire time on dave's esl worthwhile. Very Happy
