this was another funny thread that just exploded with all kinds of personal attacks about the poster's sexual orientation and his intelligence.
- Binicio called the guy an "idiot."
- Caniff called the guy a "troll" and suggested he was gay.
You'd think by the way you reacting that the guy just spit on your mother! |

same can be said of men! |
No! No! Sistersarah!
All the guys who go online and spend their time claiming all western women in Korea are disgusting pigs, are the very definition of mentally healthy, virile manhood. All of whom possess rippling abs and biceps that can crush a skull with a tiny flex, and it would do everyone good to take their opinions as fact until proven otherwise.

Just some points I'd like to raise about spending time on dates etc without sex coming into it, regardless of culture:
-You are here for yourself, to make your life better. Concentrate most of your effort on your study and your work and your savings. Take time for yourself.
-It's interesting getting to know someone without the emotional stuff right off the bat. When you sleep together, the attachment becomes emotional, not rational
-When you talk and go out etc without sex coming into it you really get to know her, and she you, as there isn't pretending or trying to say what the other merely wants to hear. You basically don't care how you come across, not self-conscious as there is no trade going on.
-You find out how she lives her daily life, her viewpoints, how she gets on with others and parents etc. These details are very important to know should you be looking at a longer term relationship.
-Quick sexual involvement can often mean unexpected complications, like becoming a relationship? What if you want out? You have to break out.
-It's not good to have your head confused when you could be clear and free.
-Most people think about marriage when in their 30's. If that's you, you've gotta know what she is like. You might find it worthwhile to keep sex out of the relationship for a couple of months so you can have a clear head about her. |

I now have experience dating women from Japan, China, Korea, and the USA, and I have come to the conclusion that generally, Western women aren't for me. Not because of some sort of flaw, but because of cultural differences.
Basically, I don't like American dating culture, and the rules and assumptions that come with it.
For example, if you don't hug or kiss most Americans by the second or third date, they think you don't like them. The subtext here is that simply going out on a date with someone doesn't necessarily mean you like them! You have to watch them for "signs" that they are interested. Are they making eye contact? Do they laugh at your jokes? Is there sexual tension? On and on ad infinitum. So, knowing that our culture damn near requires certain levels of intimacy at certain points, makes most people bound by those things. So maybe I want to wait and see with a girl, 5 or 6 dates before I show her I like her...I've had girls say "Hey, can I get a hug?" with a "What's wrong with you?" tone after 3 dates. Damn! Why does everyone have to move so fast?
And the funny thing is, I'm not a guy who has never moved fast before. I've just done it and decided it wasn't for me.
Then, besides this, there are the little social cues that people observe, and then attach their own meaning to. Is the way she touches her hair a sign of insecurity? Is the way he smiles a sign of confidence? Whatever! Half the assumptions drawn this way are wrong anyway, in my opinion.
Dating outside my own culture has allowed me to cut through all the cultural *beep*.
I'm not saying there are no Western girls fit to date me, or anything like that. I'm sure there are girls out there I'd click with great. I just think its too bad that our culture hinders my ability to get to know them in the emotionally healthiest possible way. |
OP, are you Asian or Western or some other ethnicity? You said there are cultural differences, but if you are Western then you come from the same culture. Do you come from some very conservative background?
What's the big deal about kissing a girl on the second date? You are not going to bed with them? Of course, everyone has their preferences, but I don't focus on the kissing or whatever, but if we can get along in general.... The least of my concners about Western women are what you mentioned. Actually, many Western women don't like to move too fast except maybe physically in some cases. |

Giving someone a hug is not moving too fast. Here's a hint: I hug people I am not even dating *gasp*! |
I didn't say it was too fast.
You're an English teacher, right? "Too" implies excess. |
Yes, you wrote "so", but the tone of what you wrote implied "too". I find it sad you equate hugging with "moving fast" (whether of the "so" or "too" variety). As I said, I hug people I'm not even dating. Hugs are not sexual. |

TECO, I called the OP an idiot not because of his dating preferences, but because he made the idiotic generalization that he attributed to all AMERICAN women in the title when he was really talking about his opinions of WESTERN women, as if he made the same dumb assumption that a lot of Koreans do- all westerners are American.
Then, he finally admitted his slip up in a reply to me.
Now, I still call him an idiot because even thought there is an edit function on this board, he still refuses to change his original idiotic post and the subsequent posts where he equates all westerners and western cultures as Americans and American culture.
This has got to be one of the dumbest threads in a long, long time.

You got it backwards. I am talking about AMERICAN women, because I've never dated women from other Western countries.
And "not doing something" is not the same as "refusing to do something." Refusing is something you do to a request. Nobody requested I edit my original post. If you read the thread, you'll see its evolution; editing the OP will just make the later comments a little harder to understand.

Uh. no, professor, you INFERRED "too." I did not imply it. Infer and imply are a couple words you might want to bounce off dictionary.com.
And you inferred it incorrectly. |

Trying to provoke a reaction because you were bored. And now that you got that reaction, you're happily embroiled in a flame war.
Trolling.

If you were bored, perhaps you could have killed time by properly proofreading your post.
When you use a pronoun, the antecedent should be clear.
The correct plural of "ignoramus" is "ignoramuses", because "ignoramus" is not a noun in Latin, but a verb.
"Open-minded" is an adjective, and so it requires a hyphen.
"Myself" is a reflexive pronoun. It should not be used as a substitute for the personal object pronoun "me".
In addition, although starting a sentence with the conjunction "and" is not a grammatical error, doing it twice in one short paragraph is rather poor style.
A writer? Really? |
