| I don't see Spike Lee bashing Spielberg for the lack of Negroes in Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. |
That's because he didn't have a movie about to be released, for which he could have used a little press, even negative press to help launch it.
If he hadn't just finished his own movie, guaranteed his face would have remained resolutely shut.
I want to thank the earlier reply posters for putting this up
"Why aren't African American Shown in the movie?
'They are shown. Eastwood shows AA Marines on board ship during the convoy sequence. Additionally, a wounded African American marine is seen on a stretcher during the beach landing sequence.'
'This small role is historically accurate. The Marine Corps was segregated during WW II. Of the 60,000 Marines on Iwo Jima no more 600 were AA. Black Marines on Iwo Jima were mainly support troops, and primarily used to haul ammunition and other supplies from the beach to the front.
Of the 6,000 marines killed on Iwo Jima, 2 were African American.' "
I wonder if anyone has sent this telegram to Spike Lee yet? |
