| I lived in Lauderdale Lakes part of Fort Lauderdale. My neighborhood was mostly Haitian. super friendly people, who work very very hard. English is the second language in the Lauderdale Miami area. You must speak Spanish. I love the weather, beaches and the Everglades. Florida has so many out door activities. Canoeng the national canoe trail in Appalachaccola which has some of the best bird watching in the the world. Hiking the Florida trail. Lots of Canadians live in Lauderdale. They all complain aboput the humidity but love the year around sunshine. Miami is beautiful with great nightlife. i think the crimerate is often exagerated. |

| You should definately read my book, Fort Lauderdale, The Journal of Florida Artist Rupert W. Miles. Try googling it, and if you're interested, I'll see if I can get you one. |

I'm from South Florida, the Dade and Broward county area.
There's a certain nostalgia I get for what I call the old South Florida institutional architecture. Whenever I see old school buildings from the mid 20th century, like the school I went to as a kid, I get this feeling of familiarity even though the neighborhood around it has changed.
Key Lime pie. That's all I have to say. Try it at Joe's Stone Crabs on Miami Beach sometime.
Biscayne Bay from North Miami or downtown is still beautiful at night.
The humidity, mosquitos, and bad driving stink though. you got obnoxious people who play their music loud, but you'll find that anywhere in the USA I bet. The winters are usually nice (this one so far has been sort of humid).
Crime is here like in any big city area, but not the murder capital of the US like in the 80's anymore, though you might feel that going into places like Opa Locka.
I've never really disliked living here like some of the northerner's in the thread. There's a lot more variety of people down south. I've visited all parts of Florida, and the differences said here are true (even Palm Beach just north of Broward has a different feel). The women in all parts have looked good though regardless. |
