| One of my friends I grew up with shaved his head when we were 15. He started hanging around with some douchebags. Started listening to really awful nazi punk music. I could really care less what bands they were he was really into or how significant their contribution to music was. One night he called me up to tell me that they were going to burn down the house of two gay black men who moved into a house two streets down from his friend. That was when I stopped hanging out with him. He got pretty pissed at me for not coming round anymore and one morning threatened to hit me with a baseball bat. Last I heard, he was in jail. Sucks to be him. I can't fucking stand racism. |
This behavour is not typical of all Skinheads although when you see notice it, it tends to create a lasting impression unfortunately this is the kind of impression movies and the media like. It's sells tickets and ultimately fools young kids that, thats how to be cool.
Shaving your head bald doesn't make you a Skinhead. If I see someone with a cleanly shaved head I assume he's an artsy type. Usually they are.If you watch prison shows like Oz or American History X you see guys who might look like skins but they're not. They are Aryan Brotherhood.
Real Skinheads don't go for a real rough look. They prefer to be clean cut and tidy. |

Well well well, I guess I've been shown up. I'm interested in what kind of stuff you have in your collection, bundangbabo, particularly from the '60s.
Incidentally, I wasn't kidding about Chris Murray. I just sent payment for his plane tickets today. Set your calendars for September 19 and 20. One show will be at DGBD and I haven't decided on the second yet.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Chris Murray is the former lead singer of King Apparatus, and he now lives in California performing traditional ska with a very minimalist combo.

Ill be gone after 7 years of esl, and to say that I am pumped is an understatement, my 60s ska covers basically everything from Trojan plus some minor Jamiacan labels, got over 40 desmond dekker albums including all his collaberations, met him in oz a few years ago, well over 10 but he was one sweet dude, I am sure you have it already but go all the trojan box sets, I think I have over 25 and then the studio one comps, then go for your favorites by artist of that, thats what I did plus I have been in contact with some hardcore collectors(one in particular owns a shop dedicated to 60s reggae/ska), and we have traded. I have a wicked doco on ska from the 60s, basically playing it out as a crazy black man craze.......man I love ska, cant wait to be home and load up on blowhard and the gang again..
chris murray, i dont mind, should be good shows but I am not a fan of his latest solo stuff, wanna hope he mixes it up a bit...racetraitor, shame we didnt touch base a few years ago |

Yeah, too bad. You could've been involved in one of our DJ nights.
By the way, you can expect when Chris Murray comes, there'll be lots of jamming with other bands like Kingston Rudieska. I also found an interesting dub band I'm trying to get involved, I&I Djangdan. |
