just curious, i havnt met anyone who doesnt like them yet, at least i havnt met someone who doesnt like them who has given them a chance.

theyre not my favorite- I dont get a hardon over them like some people do.

I understand why they are still popular here- Western icons, music is basically upbeat, and readily understood. Certainly not like most modern rock lyrics, you have to break down a few times to fully understand.

For me, The Rolling Stones top the British Invasion era. Though I did have a fondness for the Beatles with their cartoon during reruns in my youth. the best of course, Ringo.

He gets the band lost on a trip and they end up at Count Dracula's in Transylvania. He glumly replies, "This isn't PENNsylvania?!?! Ya know, where they make all the pencils!!!" Sad

that Ringo- the everyman of the band that everyone could relate to.

the 5678s were popular long before tarantino killed their credibility by putting them in a second-rate movie.

I'm not going to read any other pages of this thread....I just wanted to lol at this "second-rate movie" comment.

DMX? Are you kidding?

I suppose that one lyric he sang "Whatchallnigahshonk" in all his songs is cool. I suppose being the Godfather of complete shlt is cool too. I swear, if there was one worthless criminal windbag that I could have the opportunity to pistolwhip, spit in the face of, and then shoot in the head, he would be high on the list.

The only people who I know that don't like the Beatles are into completely retarded music like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins etc... Okay, so that's just two guys. But you get my point.

I don't get these idiots who come up with, "the Beatles were my parent music, why should I like them?" Good music is eternal. Should I throw out my Mozart and Beethoven cuz my great, great whatver grandfather was down with them? Sheer stupidity.

Yes, some music is stuck in their time period. I don't expect my kids to like System of a Down, but if they're not down with some Beatles, they're obviousy just trying to be special.

Well,I'd have to disagree with you.I don't like The Beatles nor do I like any of your above mentioned groups.

I like a lot of 60s and 70s music, but The Beatles are not included. My collection consists entirely of 50s-70s music so it's not about disliking my parent's music either.

My brother-in-law is a Beatles fanatic and his walls are plasterd with Beatle's posters and his cd collection is entirely Beatles. He's always wearing Beatle's t-shirts and watches etc.

Last year we had a falling out over a Beatle's discussion and are no longer on speaking terms because of the "fab 4".

Basically,I told him that in my opinion The Beatles bite.I did however, admit to liking some of John Lennon's solo stuff and even owning a lennon cd at one point(greatest hits mind you).

The Zombies for example were trendsetters and had a darker edge to their music. The Turtles music really helped set the scene for the 60s.The Beatles were too "cute" and too packaged.

I thought the concept of "enlightened tastes" went out with the 90's?
I digress.
Musical taste is a personal preference like anything else. I can't say that anyone who doesn't like the movies that I think belong in the top ten is a retard now can I? Some classical music is good and some of it is crap in my opinion. It's kind of like the REM/U2 thread we had a while back. Some of my friends were into them. I wasn't. What they were singing about just didn't hit a chord with anything that I remotely was concerned with at the time.
Theres nothing wrong with liking the beatles and there's nothing wrong with not liking them plain and simple. I think that Eddie Vedder(Pearl Jam) sounds like he is trying to sing with a throatful of oatmeal. Not everyone shares that opinion.

Steady on there, buddy. Tool are in a totally different league to those other groups. They're in a league of their own, actually. Anyway, I completely agree that these folks who don't like the Beatles (and Floyd?) are absolute dirt-eaters. Here's a really important point: I absolutely guarantee that these folks have never picked up an instrument in their lives. When you plug in and play along to the Beatles and all the other famous groups of the 60s and 70s, it all becomes crystal clear. That's how we music people learn our trade - by plugging in and playing along with McCartney, John Paul Jones, Gilmour. Everyone has the right to an opinion, obviously, but some opinions are inescapably and unmistakably smelly.

That's right, Beatle songs are difficult to do. John Lennon was once asked if he minded that other artists do covers of their work. He replied that he was unconcerned as he thought that Beatles stuff was not very doable, so all credit to those who try..

Probably explains why, with notable exceptions that prove the rule, there are relatively few covers of Beatle songs and in particular, of Lennon's handiwork.

I watched Paul McCartney present my little sister with her degree on Friday. She had a chat with him earlier and said he was nice. John Hurt was there too -Hurt was funnier, not sure if he can play bass though (it would probably get broken every time an alien rips its way out of his chest).
