Thanks for the Letterman tip, Gatsby. That's amazing.
Also I see Joo Rhip and Gopher are tools on other threads too. Don't venture to Current Events often, but I guess we have to have FOX News reps here too. |
I seldom agree with those two about anything, buy you got your ass handed to you on the Chavez thread. I wouldn't get cocky. |
Depends on your point of view. |

keep in mind the "at best" part of the point. and be careful to oil when necessary. don't want to let a lack of lubrication get in the way of a talking point. |

So that is what has been on your mind all along. And I thought you came for the politics. I wouldn't want to sit in your chair after you are done. |

People here have cited D. Letterman. I see their D. Letterman and raise them B. Clinton...
| CNN Ticker wrote: |
Bill Clinton has long pointed out he has enjoyed a good relationship with John McCain, but for a moment the former president almost sounded like a surrogate for the Republican presidential nominee Thursday morning.
Appearing on ABC's Good Morning America, Clinton said McCain's move to suspend his campaign and request a delay in the first presidential debate was a move done in "good faith," rather than as a stunt to halt falling poll numbers as several Democrats have alleged.
"I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted -- I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country and so I don't think we ought to overly parse that," Clinton said, sounding a familiar McCain Campaign talking point.
A few hours later Clinton lavished praise on McCain as he introduced him at the Clinton Global Initiative forum, saying Republican presidential nominee had taken the lead in his party when it comes to climate change.
"When most people in his party were thinking that global warming was overstated and maybe even a myth -- he decided to look into it," he said.
The former president also described the two trips that McCain took with his wife Hillary Clinton, "the junior senator from New York," to look into the issue.
But Clinton has also been effusive in his praise for Obama in recent days, telling CBS earlier this week the Illinois senator is better-suited than McCain to bring the country out of the economic crisis.
Clinton's praise of McCain also came days after he told CNN's Larry King Live he was looking forward to campaigning on behalf of Barack Obama, but was not planning on "dumping" on McCain. |

It almost certainly was good faith. Because cancelling a debate certainly is not good politics. |

John McCain arrives in time for desert, but doesn't like the flavor ice cream.

McCain Stops at Senate en Route to White House
Updated 4:19 p.m.
By Michael D. Shear and Lori Montgomery
Sen. John McCain returned to Washington on Thursday after declaring that he has suspended his campaign, but he appeared largely detached from the flurry of negotiations on a $700 billion economic rescue package that appeared to be headed to a successful conclusion.
McCain's "Straight Talk Air" landed at National Airport just after noon, and McCain's motorcade sped toward the Senate. But by then, senior Democrats and Republicans were already announcing that a deal in principle had been reached.
That news appeared to be somewhat premature as House Republican leader John Boehner told his members that "no deal" had yet been reached. McCain arrived at 3:40 p.m. at the White House, where he and his rival, Sen. Barack Obama, were scheduled to meet with President Bush and congressional leaders at 4 p.m.
The leading Democratic negotiator on the Bush administration's $700 bailout plan accused John McCain of undermining the proposal and prodding House Republicans to lay out a wholly different approach that is opposed by the White House.
"This is the presidential campaign of John McCain undermining what Hank Paulson tells us is essential for the country," said Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. "This is McCain at the last minute getting House Republicans to undermine the Paulson approach." |

I think this is one of the most hilarious exchanges I've ever read on Dave's.
I disagree with Joo, but he stays on topic and doesn't get to agressive. |

It's like something out of "Nineteen Eighty-Four." Our media is editing history, real time, to benefit some strangely powerful people.
"It really stinks." -- David Letterman, 2008.
First, the Republican administration suspends one of the most fundamental rights of the U.S. Constitution, habeas corpus.
Then the Republicans actually do suspend their convention due to a hurricane.
Then a Republican candidate wants to suspend the campaign for president due to a "crisis."
What's next, if another Republican gets elected?
Will we see an entire election suspended because of a Republican proclaimed/manufactured "crisis" ?
This is a really, really dangerous precedent McCain is setting here.
You do not suspend a campaign in a democracy; you suspend a campaign in a banana republic. America is becoming a banana republic, in more ways than one. Something is mighty fishy here.
"It really stinks."

Even Abraham Lincoln in the darkest days of his re-election campaign when the country was being bled dry and literally in danger of being torn in two did not suspend his re-election campaign. |

anyone who can't see the common sense in keeping a robot well-lubricated and regularly maintained shouldn't be allowed to vote. |
