Repeal of the income tax has greater benefits beyond making insurance portable. It will greatly improve the life of all Americans. The income tax causes massive dislocations and misallocations due to tax based economic decisions and wastes hundreds of billions of dollars annually due to these misallocations and due to massive paperwork costs.
Likewise, property taxes cause similar dislocations and misallocations.
Further, both of these taxes cause great hardship for the middle classes and the poor, and engender animosity towards the government.
After a massive reduction in the size and scope of the government, we must repeal all taxes on income and property. And while all taxes are "bad," the least harmful form of taxation comes from taxing consumption. Since we need to encourage investment, especially by the lower and middle classes who are unable to afford tax lawyers and unable to navigate the shoals of the tax system, we need to move to consumption taxes only.
The US must move to a one tax system, shared by Federal, State and Local governments. A single 10% national sales tax or VAT to fund government at all levels, replacing all of the hundreds of taxes levied today, would be a major step toward LIBERTY. |
