| I finally found the postal receipt, and now I know mine is lost. They still have not cashed my check. It's been 8 weeks and I did include return postage. I only thought that I didn't, because at the last minute I decided to mail both CBCs together. Thus, I only included one prepaid envelope and kept the other one. Now I am so frustrated and angry at myself and the DOS, and I have to start the whole 4 month process over again. What a mess! |

| I doubt it is lost. If you send it US mail it takes another few weeks over the regular 5 weeks. This is now right on the DOS webpage. Plan on about 9 weeks. It was a good idea ordering two CRCs but I bad idea sending them out together. If you had reserved one some states will apostille a federal CRC with a notorized afidavit. |
Also, they have not cashed my check yet. After 8 weeks that probably means it's lost. I'll wait a few weeks more but I doubt anything will come of it. |
If it's any consolation, the process should take less time with you, I am guessing. I mean it's extremely busy in the summer. You're passing the peak time, and hopefully when you try to get the apostille it will take less time. I would advise you to have someone take care of everything for you in person in D.C. Do you know someone in the D.C. area that could take care of it for you after you get your FBI check again? |

No, the whole process will take me another 4 months. Why would I know someone in the D.C. area? And I am certainly not flying to DC. Who has money for that? In my opinion, it most likely will take longer because of the impending holiday months, and the processing times for all services has increased from the time that I first started. I think now it will take 4.5 to 5 months now, so I probably will be teaching abroad in early 2012 maybe even later if I give myself enough time to look for a good job. Anyway, there's nothing I can do about it now. Maybe I won't even go. |

I definitely understand your frustration since I'm pretty much stuck in the same situation. My background check expires November, so if I don't get it soon I am going to have to start the process all over again. I am pretty annoyed by the whole situation since I gave up a really great tutoring job that paid $20.00 an hour because I assumed I would be in Korea by now. I have been looking into countries which don't ask for a background check, maybe that can be your plan b? I am thinking your documents haven't been lost, have you tried filling out an inquiry with the Office of Authentications? That will be my next option if I don't receive anything by Thursday, which will make it about 11 weeks since I sent them out. Although I do not have much faith they will do anything with such inquiry. Alas, something must come of all this. |

| It was 8 weeks 3 days and was sent priority us mail with a prepaid priority envelope included. If you do start over, talk to your state office before you order another FBI and see if they can apositlle it. If so, do they want it without the FBI signature (some states will take a notary signature in place of this). |
