Korea has the standard "in public, everything is fine" law unless you are doing something bad or illegal. Many Koreans believe differently though ("right to face" which refers to using photos for purely commercial reasons). I've never had problems with taking photos in public and the police has backed me and my friends on this issue (including the Mannam thing)

You're right in general, but the law differs when it comes to beaches, etc., where certain kinds of photography can be interpreted as sexual harassment. Here are a few links with discussions about the right to one's image, sexual harassment laws, and the arrest of men taking pictures of women down in Haeundae.

Thanks for the info! I never took photos of strangers on the beach, so I never had an issue. I'll make sure to let other photographers know!

From that last article:

Quote:
According to police, Mr. T used his own camcorder to secretly film the chest of a 20-year old Ms. Jang, who was wearing a bikini, at approximately 4:20 pm on the 4th.
Police have arrested four others — two foreigners and two Koreans — for doing the same.
The problem is that it is not easy to catch men who use hidden cameras to film women clad in only their bikinis.
An Jeong-yong, chief of the Haeundae Police Department, said, “if a person continuously films the body of a particular women we can see his intent and arrest him, but if it is difficult to prove his intentions all we can do is make him delete the footage and let him off with a warning.”

#1 What chests? Lol

#2 Continuously filming women's bodies is the so called unenforceable crime.

#3 Mr. T came to Korea!! I bet he pities those fools.
