Even WT's comments are too much to me.
It's interesting that WT has the ability to alienate both Korean apologists and haters. Perhaps, he's the John Kerry to unite apologists and haters |

*hat tip*
I was on summer vacation last week and decided not to post here. Only had smartphone access, pain to type and all. I missed the initial flash fire but have had to witness the slow burn in this thread since then.

You know, last time you called me an apologist, I decided to cut my losses and drop the argument with you. I suggested that you stop indirectly referencing me, and I would in return mostly steer clear of you. Sure, you still took little snipes at me without naming me directly, like in the poverty thread over on the off-topic forum, and I still responded to your threads without trying to overtly attack you, but I figured that we had come to a silent agreement, and that the acrimony had largely dissipated. Then I saw what you wrote in this thread.
Let me comment on a few things.
Defending PGHB

| About zyzyfer, of course he is an apologist. ... Ever notice how he rushes to PGHB's defense? Oh yeah, but I forgot, PGHB is also a moderate. |
Wow, I suggested to augustine that using real names wasn't a good idea once, and that constitutes rushing to PGHB's defense. I've also called PGHB out several times on his habit of not reading threads before posting, and am not terribly fond of what he posts. Yet you feel fit to say I regularly run to his defense. When I first returned to this board, my intention was to get the apologist camp to ease up a bit and stop repressing posts with their unproductive counter-points.
The "Moderate" Term - Others adopted their own interpretations of its meaning. My intended meaning was someone who can say good things and bad things about Korea without either breaking their statements down into what sound like public service announcements for ethnic equality, or coming across as vindictive jerks who carpet bomb Koreans with blanket statements.
If people jumped on board with the term without my explicit consent and warped your perceived definition of it because I did not expressly say that thegadfly, PGHB, TUM, or SteelRails were not moderates, I don't know what to tell you.

I sometimes answer posted questions and give advice (moderating ignorance), I sometimes post my own questions (moderating my own ignorance), and I most often post refuting or rebutting blanket statements, stereotypes, overgeneralizations, or conflations of fact (moderating ignorance). |
Sorry thegadfly, but this was not my intended definition of what a "moderate" is. Regretting that label as well.
Your Personal Criticisms

Yes I find you extremely annoying, too. You whine about the advantages that women and F visa holders have when it comes to getting a job in Korea, rather than suck it up and pay your dues or move on to more promising pastures. You have an unbelievably dry personality online, although I'm sure you're a real peach in person. You hate poor people. And you keep putting these stupid parenthetical inserts after every single sentence, giving qualifying details to the original statement, a sure sign of awful writing from an unintelligent person.
...
I guess the next step in this is for you to write that I am a tedious and insufferable Internet warrior whose goal is to defeat you in message board combat, therefore you will not be responding further? That's what you did last time, right? |

Let's see, a basher jumped to conclusions about some people on here without seeking out alternative explanations, then lumped them into a category while posting insulting things about them, all the while refusing to admit any possibility of being wrong and refusing to see how "they do it too".
Now not to say that apologists don't do that, but that kind of approach is the essence of the overly-critical, anti-Korean poster mentality. |

Zyz,
I was not defining the term as it applies in a general sense. I was responding to WT calling me an apologist. You are right, of course, that my "definition" does not apply to the term's common use. It was intended as a dig, not a true definition.
My point was that WT was just name-calling, whereas the folks he labelled "apologist" are often actually the ones seeking clarity and correctness (as you just did, by pointing out my apparent misinterpretation). |
