I know one of the guys on the cover of "Groove" is Jesse Day. Here's one of his rap videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqczqqsXWCo I think that's what he's mostly known for.

That's cringeworthy tv at its best. I read one of the other guys got famous by doing a K-pop dance. If that's what it takes to become a expat superstar I think i'll give it a miss. I guess it's not just Koreans who trade in their dignity for the chance to be on tv.

ROFL at the end with the echoing, "DON'T EVER... LOOK DOWN... ON KOREA... AGAIN."
Gotta love that false bravado propaganda.

They wouldn't dare claim that a native English speaker (certainly not American), would be a terrible shot. That's why they used the foreigners they did (in case, anybody cried foul). That's not the funny part. The funny part is that the Korean, military or otherwise, would be a perfect shot.

No, the funny part is they're using a replica of a U.S. made M4 carbine instead of their own *ahem* stuff.

Yeah, I noticed that later. But the real funny part is the part they didn't show, which was that the adjossi rigged the game when the waygookin played and again when the Korean played. And by adjossi, I mean the director.

Nothing proves that someone is a "hardcore" rapper like dancing ajumma and drunken adjoshi. But he's down with the frown! Groove Magazine Superstar? You know it.

I respect people with decent Korean skills because I know the hard work it takes to gain that ability. But the way these people have gained notoriety isn't something I respect. And to call them expat superstars is hyperbollocks, the type of which "Groove" excels at.

Never met any of those folks, nor seen their work.

Dat Jake in the Groove article tho...
Quote:
On the flipside, the constant limelight is a necessary evil, and one that Jake welcomes. “People talk about their privacy being invaded … I’d be like, ‘*beep* that, I don’t care man, come into my house and take photos while I’m asleep naked.’”

He says that he was never in it for the fame, but attention is a gauge for success. “It’s like a verification of what you do. The more popular you get, (the more) it shows that what you’re doing is being noticed. It’s like a positive indication of what you’re doing is being recognized.

Maybe there's a context in which this is sparkling insight...but I can't think of what it might be.
