British English is the best English, everyone knows that.

The stuff in Hong Kong is pretty good, but from what my friend from Hong Kong says, you need like an MA to really make a career out of it.

Just because you're rich and have all kinds of money doesn't mean you get the arrogant or obnoxious right to chastise the rest of us that don't rich boy. I'm happy you can go abroad and live the fantasy life, but don't assume everyone can. Some of us came here to pay off our debts as opposed to travelling, being free, or whatever dumb BS it is you do. Some of us actually can't afford stuff. You must be one of the biggest @$$h0les on this board.

Grow up! Do you think everyone with a masters degree is rich?

I probably came from a background and a place as working class as yours - it is all about priorities.

If you have a liberal arts BA and a generic month long TESOL certificate
then don't expect anyone to be knocking down your door. Why can't you do an MA TESOL in Korea? They have been giving generous scholarships to foreign students for quite a few years now, there is no excuse - and certainly don't blame some poverty stricken background.

If you have a B.Ed (or eqv. and are a licensed teacher) the Singapore Government does have a program to hire foreign teachers for their public schools.

Back in 2010 they contacted me asking me to apply. If you are interested you can try contacting:

[email protected]

I didn't ask them about payments, but I remember doing a search. You are paid on the same scale that local public school teachers are (based on experience/education). I think the biggest deal breaker for me was that housing isn't included.

The OP mentions Condos. These are private dwellings that make up only about 10% or so of total dwellings on the island. Rents are very high for these. Perhaps 50% or more of your salary.

I've been to Singapore a couple times. It is a very clean and organized place to live if you can handle the heat. However, it is very expensive. 20% of the population are millionaires - that doesn't include housing assets. Think about how that influences cost of living.

It is on my short list of future places to work, but I can tell you good international schools there will want to see you working at a place like Seoul Foreign School, not Kim's Academy. Of course the younger people on this board could always go back and do an MBA or something in finance and find their way into Singapore with a very nice package.

I think the impression of Singapore could be that of Seoul for a lot of relative newbies. Not saying Singapore is bad, but I'm thinking that the cost of living and similarity to life in the West might not appeal to everyone; I've known people who weren't making much money to continue staying in Korea.
