Fin Du Monde, La Maudite, Maredsous
Parked at the end of the floating dock in an Adirondack chair watching the sun go down.....and on occasion crawling back to cottage giggling as floating dock sections wobble way too much for a biped-chiquita-wanting-to-stay-dry after a couple of quarts of those  |

| I miss central heat (and central air). I'm at work now and the heater fumes are getting to me. I've got a huge headache and my feet are STILL cold! |

Fin Du Monde!!! AH HHAHAHAHAA
that's one of the best things i've heard! That was the big hit in first year university. kids would line their shelves with their empties of fin du monde trying to see who drank the most of it!
Umm.. wondering about the previous posts about chinese restauarants...
i'm hoping u guys aren't talking about northamericanized chinese food, because that stuff isn't even worth bragging about. I must admit, the best chinese food i've ever had was probaby in vancouver's chinatown. Their dimsum is sooo cheap relative to victoria's (where i'm from). Victoria has the oldest chinatown in canada, unfortunately it's the size of my bathroom.
This is quite specific, but i definitely miss a little restaurant in victoria the most.. called pagliacchi's. Best bread i've ever ate in a restaurant hands down. Some of the best pasta i've ever had in the world (i've travelled italy as well... thought i didn't really eat at very expensive restaurants).
I have several little restaurants that i eat at all the time, where i know the owners, waiters know me, yadda yadda.. Im sure most of you do as well, back home. I cant wait to hit them up when i get back, i'm going on a glutton tour. |

1. maple syrup
2. french toast/eggs/bacon
3. Swiss Chalet 1/4 chicken and fries
4. Crepes at Demetre's
5. good doughnuts
6. Christmas spirit
7. Pumpkin Pie
8. Kraft dinner
9. good chocolate milk
10. nice steaks
And of course, family and friends. |

Beats Bloor & Yonge. Among the things I miss most are the lakes of the Whiteshell and the champagne powder of Lake Louise at 20 below.

Don't crow so hard. Toronto's not the only city that has strong ethnic communities. Edmonton has some pretty wicked Vietnamese food on "Ho Chi Min" trail, and the best pot stickers outside of Harbin, China.
Calgary happens to have the best damn donair shop in the entire universe.

And everyone forgot to mention that per capita, Winnipeg has more restaurants than any other city in Canada, among them fabulous Eritrean, Italian, and award-winning fusion ones. (So what if half are Ukrainian?)
The best thing about eating west of T Bay: no smoggy TO film on the food!

The smoke is better out west, too.
I also miss: happy people in winter, real cocoa, fig gelati, fig newtons, baking my own on lazy Saturdays, baking myself on lazy Saturdays, doing my grocery shopping at 4 groceries stores of different ethnicities, slutty prairie folk, folk festivals.
I definitely do NOT miss Tim Horton's anything. Tim's/Robin's/Starbuck's and their ilk are to coffee what KFC is to chicken. |

and just to stay on topic.... another thing i really miss about canada and toronto in particular is the multiculturalism.... toronto is the most multicultural city in the world and i honestly didnt really appreciate it till i left.... its so great to be able to meet so many people from so many different parts of the world on any given day |

I say a Canadian is going to get fat when he moves from Korea to Canada, the implication being that Canadian food, as discussed at length above, is fattier than Korean food. Then you go and post statistics comparing the body mass of Canadians and Americans. He's not moving from the US to Canada, is he? I didn't say anything about the states, did I? So why are you so quick to make this comparison? Can you say INFERIORITY COMPLEX? But since you've started the comparison, allow me to finish it:

and while we're at it....
for anyone interested... GDP per capita for the US is a little inflated by the number of absurdly wealthy people there are in the US... the US actually has the second worst percentage of children living in poverty of all the industrialized nations in the world.
"With 15.5 percent of its children considered poor, Canada won the dubious distinction of ranking No. 17 among 23 industrialized nations in the first such report by the United Nations Children's Fund on an issue plaguing the developed world.
Canada does poorly on child poverty
One out of every six children -- a total of 47 million people -- in the world's wealthiest countries are living in what the Unicef report calls relative poverty, measured as the percentage of households in a country with incomes less than half the national median.
