It doesn't mention severance pay.. or is it just a given they have it each year.
A two-year contract is interesting. What does that mean exactly? Are there two year work visas? |

| yet no matter how i slice it, i'll still be making less than at my current hagwon, even if i do camps during the vacation. |
I don't know how many ways I can tell you people that this is something you really should do. Making less? If you can't find other lucrative things to do during the half the week that you aren't working at the university you don't deserve vacation.
Tiger Beer, this is from efllaw.com:

| Private secondary/tertiary schools that provide pensions under the private schools pension law are exempt from the severance pay law. |

Private universities can offer a private pension plan instead of severance, and most of them do exactly that. If they don't mention severance, then they probably don't pay it.

No, you have to extend your ARC for a year at the end of the first year. |

dude above has a point
you may make less at a university but if you are working 10 - 15 hours per week at a uni and you are able to pick up several lucrative part-time gigs on the side, you'll make more money.
1.5 Mill, or whatever BNU is paying, is pretty damn low though. |

pyongshin does make a point, but all the E1/E2's will have to work illegally for extra dough. yes, i know that everyone does this, but i guess i come from a straight-shooter's point of view.
also, he said he does no prep for class, but i'm estimating to prep one hour for each hour of class i have, which means 24 hours of work per week. yes, it's because i'm a newbie and i take work seriously, but i find it hard to believe that you veterans can teach a full 12-15 hours with absolutely no prep. either you're god's gift to the classroom or your classes suck.
besides, when you teach privates, how much time does it take for you to prep as well as travel? this is an honest question, but i'm assuming you prep at least something and you don't have instant teleportation devices. |

Those assumptions will get you nowhere. You will pay the price for your lack of vision. Of course there is travel time. Buy a car. |

| Well the interview was going to be tomorrow... and I'm very pleased that I can officially say that I no longer have to attend the 2nd wave of interviews as I've just been offered a terrific position in Seoul. I wish all of you the best of luck in finding that dream university position. |

| It may not be.... but I loved the people I met at the interview... seems like a terrific staff. It's a university not far from Seoul... 6 stops from Seoul Station. 2,300,000 won a month starting salary, for 15 hours. Just about the whole vacation plan, although you have to work for one month of your choice... summer or winter vacation. One month severance pay at the conclusion. Free housing. I'd call that a terrific position. |

| Well I found out today that my B.A., M.A. and 2 years university teaching experience (3 total years teaching in korea) wasn't enough to get an interview. Just curious to know if anyone here has gotten an interview and what qualifications they have. For peace of mind. |
I have a B.A. with 2 years Hakwon experience, and I did get an interview for the Hongik campus in Jochiwon. The biggest selling point was my willingness to work in Jochiwon. I also had a lot of help from the_beaver. Without his help, I dont think I would have been able to get the job.
If you are really interested in his methods, just read his posting here..

Good good good. Congrats. That sounds great to me. Isn't 6 stops from Seoul Stn. still in Seoul no matter which way you go? |

In regards to your second question, yes, yes there is. As mentioned in a post a month ago I got a two year E2 that expires in 2007 with a two year mutiple entry visa, both for the price of a one year. Since I plan for these to be my final years in Korea it all works out fine. Saves both time and money. |

| My bad... not six stops from Seoul Station, six stops from Sindorim. So not directly in Seoul.... but a good location. |

Well, was in for the interview today and am glad to say I came out with a job. Anyone else here going to be working at Seoul campus? Hope to see you soon. I'll be the suspiciously young Irish git. |
