I wasn't joking when I said they're running PR campaigns to get people to think they're just friendly motorcycle riders and have outgrown their seedy and criminal past.
Meanwhile they're killing off all their biker and drug dealing rivals and building a network of bunker-like 'clubhouses'.
I'll look around and see if I can't find any of their ads on the net (I believe they've been sticking to highway billboards but am not current so can't say for sure).
Anyway, this is diverging pretty far from the main point of the thread.
I'd like to say that
A. I don't believe all the testimonies I've seen and read from people who were there, but
B. Using SWAT and Guard units armed with assault rifles to break up a party is without a doubt excessive use of force and unbelievably dangerous. What if some nervous guardsman accidentally let off a round?
The worst case scenario is just so obvious and a horrific that you have to wonder WTF was going through the heads of the guys who planned this raid. |

Ok, that's interesting. I didn't know about them, I kind of use it as a generic term like "kleenex" to refer to gangs/clubs of middle aged people "slumming" in denim jackets and the like, who drive around the countryside in the springtime. I figured there was a real club with that name, but I didn't realize it was a nationwide network type thing. I guess we don't have them where I'm from. |

point proven. you have no idea what you are talking about. football antics and rave culture are completely different from each other. ravers don't throw beer bottle at each other. see ravers deal with flakey mentalities like plur (peace love unity respect). you know nothing about this culture and yet you totally think you do, it's pretty funny. |
By golly that IS pretty funny! |
LOL!!! PLUR!!!!! Thanks Princess, for takin' me back.
I also remember..."we're like techno-hippies." |
I'd never heard it before and I almost disgraced myself laughing! |
yes its pretty funny. just as an fyi...PLUR is a raver term used by the so called "candy ravers" those that dropped about a milion pills of X a night, wore eccesive bright beaded necklaces, faux fur pants, and visors. They talk about love and sharing while trying to score a free pill of X from the dealer they banged the night before. They're a "culture" unto themselves, characterised by bad acne and a love of visors and plush animals. They definitely made parties more colorful back in the day, and the girls provided very easy make-out partners for my friends...it was all about "love" you know... |

I love how disgruntled old farts like Joe Dofu and Bulsajo manage to confuse their blinkered view of current events as the truth. I bet it's a lot like when people were debating whether pre-Nazi Germany was going to hell in a handbasket...people like Joe Dofu were right there to deny every clue and and put a positive spin on their hero's actions rather than admit that it was not actually snowing, those were the ashes of other people falling from the sky.
"This is how urban legends spread. People like you copy and paste other people's articles without putting them in quotation marks, and then some of your contacts say they heard a first hand account, and their friends say they heard a first hand account, and so on."

If you really want to grow as a person and have debates that are more fitting to your age-bracket I suggest stepping back, reading more varied sources, and taking a chill pill. Dude, did you even click on her link to the other forum, or did you just decide she's a vapid moron because she's likes electronic music and enjoys dancing? More than twenty people all reported the SAME EVENTS on that board...is it hysteria? An urban legend? An urban legend isn't reported by dozens of different people as a direct experience, it gets told as "I knew a guy who knew a guy..."
Do you have Mommy and Daddy issues? Was your ex-girlfriend a liberal? Can you think about any of these issues without judging someone or calling them names? Where are your footnoted sources and newspaper citations? You really think a bunch of 15-year old kids on crappy reproductions of designer drugs deserve to have assault weapons jammed in their faces while an attack dog knaws on their nuts? Maybe you should move to a place where the political climate better suits your beliefs like North Korea, Jakarta, or Indonesia. If you're so in love with jackbooted fascism, go be a part of it...don't just fling poo on some namby-pamby teacher site...go crush skulls in real life. People like you are what people like Bush and Kim Jung Il build thriving autocracies on, don't just be a spectator.
Oh, and...you have the SAME JOB as Paperbag Princess old man, so don't get too high and mighty about how mature and informed your politics are because you sound as moronic as any stupid hippie I've met...you're just on the opposite side of the spectrum and just as willing to contemplate the validity of anything that doesn't substantiate your beliefs. God, old people suck so much, they get so high and mighty about their pet issues and think that anyone younger than them should sit and listen to them drone on and on. Sure buddy, everyone is a moron and only you are entitled to have subjective beliefs and make snap judgments.

You are in serious need of a remedial reading course if you think Joe and I are taking the same side on this issue.
Still waiting to hear back from you about 'Police Chief' Mark Fuhrman and the Tanks of Doom, Paper Tiger. You see, here's the funny part- you actually think that your 'blinkered view of current events' somehow has more legitimacy when you have clearly recounted as 'truth' things that never happened(hint: M.F.). You don't (and can't) back up what you say yet expect to be able to pass judgment on what is and isn't true. You weren't there either so you're just speculating like the rest of us. |

I'm a little bit flattered, as I'm not yet old enough to hate being thought of as "old"... my age is a perfect cube, greater than 8 but less than 64.

It's funny that Paper Tiger Tiger is using age as an insult here. I have no idea how old s/he is, whether or not s/he is younger or older than me, and I certainly don't have any recollection of saying "You don't now nothin' cause you're just a young 'un, little grasshopper" but that could just be because of the Alzheimer's I suppose.
I suck at math but believe I'm a year older than you, Joe. Or 10 years. Good God! You might even be younger than PaperTiger!
Paper Tiger, you brought it up so how old are you exactly?
And why are you so self-conscious about it?
Someone giving you a hard time about premature baldness or something?
And what would satisfy you on this thread anyway?
If we said "Yes all cops are fascist pigs who would shoot children and babies if given the chance, ecstacy should be free and legal, and 'fight for your right to party' should have its own amendment in the constitution"? |

LOS ANGELES, November 9, 2004 - At 7:50 PM two armored tanks showed up at an anti-war protest in front of the federal building in Westwood. The tanks circled the block twice, the second time parking themselves in the street and directly in front of the area where most of the protesters were gathered. Enraged, some of the people attempted to block the tanks, but police quickly cleared the street. The people continued to protest the presence of the tanks, but about ten minutes the tanks drove off. It is unclear as to why the tanks were deployed to this location.

Still want to say it didn't happen? That doesn't alarm you?
Watch the video or do your own search if that site has too much of a taint of bias, it took me less than a minute to find six different links to this issue. Or perhaps your arthritis is too bad to do that much typing.
"And why are you so self-conscious about it?

I'm not self-conscious about my age at all, I think it's pretentious and idiotic for older people to cite someone's younger age as a reason for not having a valid opinion. It just comes off as some deep-seated ire directed at the hot young girls that are no longer an option for yJoe Dofu (perhaps they never were). I know you've been following this threat, Bulsajo (it's not like you were out raving)...so you must know that it Joe Tofu started hurling superlatives about young women and liberals. You just called her a moron...again, do you have a source to discredit Paperbag's "alarmist" statements. Is the sky falling or not?
PS-My hairline is advancing, not receding...I'm an evolutionary throwback!
"And what would satisfy you on this thread anyway?

I'd be satisfied if you clowns could just give a link or site a source that discredits people's points of view you disagree with rather than heaving excrement and invectives like you're some sort of primate. Leave that to me. Also, if you'd admit that some of my more pointed remarks were clever and well-concieved...that would be satisfying.
Allow me to quote myself. "I bet it's a lot like when people were debating whether pre-Nazi Germany was going to hell in a handbasket...people like Joe Dofu were right there to deny every clue and and put a positive spin on their hero's actions rather than admit that it was not actually snowing, those were the ashes of other people falling from the sky. " Since I like to hear myself talk, as many others do...you are morally obligated to admit...that was pretty sweet.
I'd love to quote myself more, but my coffee's getting cold. Ciao for now, Chairman Mao. |

WELL, NO SHIT SHERLOCK! Anything else you'd like to accuse me of doing? Killing JFK? If I had any doubts as to whether you were a moron or not you've just gone and completely dispelled them, moron. You're accusing me of being 'old' like it's some sort of disease without even knowing how old I am. And for that same reason I've never criticized you for being young, only for being stupid.
If you can't read, you shouldn't be here. And you definitely shouldn't be teaching.
As for the 'tanks' they don't look like tanks, they look like APCs or IFVs. Are they police or not? Who deployed them?
I don't think there is any police force in North America which uses IFVs or tanks. I can't tell because when I go to play the video at your link, I get ERROR 404: DOCUMENT NOT FOUND. Anyway all of this is irrelevant, and here's why:
Now you've shown yourself to be extremely hard of reading so I'll try to take this slow for you.
You said:
Quote: |
I wish I could get the links, but I remember hearing something about the anti-Bush demonstrations in California, how a tank (or tanks) showed up to discourage people from voicing their constitutionally protected opinions. |
Yes, I made fun of that. Not the idea so much as your wording of it. It sounded loopy. [I'd still like to see a video- where were these people protesting, exactly? What were they doing exactly? It makes a difference]. Then, right after that, you said
Quote: |
Anyone attend the anti-Bush rallies in Portland, Oregon? I heard a lot about some real disorderly conduct (crowds obstructing the freeway and major intersections at rushhour) but I never heard about how Mark Furhman (ex LA police chief) dealt with it. Seems he was pretty supportive of a heavily armed police presence when I lived there. |
Mark Fuhrman was a homocide detective. He's never been the police chief of anywhere, and he has about as much to do with crowd-control as I do.
That post made you sound like a loon, and so I treated you as one. You've yet to write anything that would convince me otherwise, but I do like your avatar.
Now run along and play, wee laddie! |

How old are you? I told you mine.
I didn't say younger people don't have valid opinions. I said that young people, in mobs, on drugs, tend to make poor decisions. In fact mobs/crowds always make poor decisions, but when they're under 23, feel righteous and invincible, and are intoxicated, its worse.

Man, hot young girls are an option for anybody in the rave scene. Why do you think young men go there and pretend not to laugh at PLUR?

Uh... right, whatever... how you took me for a National Socialist I cannot fathom. You are saying the most free country in the world is going Nazi? That there's no possible justification for police breaking up a mob of 2000 junkies and drug dealers cavorting on public property? We're talking about rich kids spending mommy and daddy's money getting high and screwing strangers for drugs, not poor immigrants squatting on a hillside because they can't afford homes.
If those kids had really been thinking about peace, love, respect, harmony, et al, they would have got a permit and held their party somewhere it wouldn't bother the neighbors. But no, that would just be a concert. They wanted the thrill of breaking the law, so the organizer went through this whole scam of not revealing the location until the day before. |

Easy there Gramps, don't give yourself an aneurism. It's not my fault the link doesn't work. Don't try to extrapolate that into some sort of shortcoming on my part.
Younger than 64, huh? Well, sheeeit boy....you shoulda said so. The amniotic fluid's still dryin behind your ears I reckon.
I never said "you are a nationlist socialist", I implied you are a fascist. Almost the same, but not quite. Given your intellectual superiority you probably already learned that about 40 years ago. Qudos to yew, ya geriatric candy-flippin kid. Tew kewl.
I didn't say you killed JFK either, I implied you shot Warren G. Harding though, you wily fossil.
I bet you remember back during, prohibition, ratting out commies in the 50's, the 60's, and cocaine riddled 80's that people were using PLUR to get laid, it's not such a bad thing...especially if you felt like it was real, even for only a few hours.
Portland Chief of Police during my stay there was Mark Kroeker. I was wrong. Sorry, must have been all that cheap ecstasy I did chasing the three good trips I had on it. Ohmygod, did I just pile more wood on the fire poppa?
My age? I'm older than 8 and younger than 64. Difference is in four years you'll be 60 whereas I've got a little more than two decades to go. See? I can be forthcoming too. I love it when I'm magnanimous and you should too.
Mine's not a high horse, but I can still see you liver-spotted pate from where I sit. I don't know everything and sometimes I'm loopy as hell, but I don't criticise people for being young on one hand and then pout like a sullen little girl when someone points out how old I am. If someone takes on a big issue and they don't have the facts to back them up, you're not exactly taking the intellectual high ground by calling them a moron.
"I didn't say younger people don't have valid opinions. I said that young people, in mobs, on drugs, tend to make poor decisions. In fact mobs/crowds always make poor decisions, but when they're under 23, feel righteous and invincible, and are intoxicated, its worse."
You mean...like at Kent State, Woodstock, or any other place where jackbooted thugs were used without regard for public safety, because that's MY issue, not whether people are young or intoxicated. It's an example of excessive force that's indicative of how our liberties are crumbling. Hell, if being on drugs is what spurs people to call a spade a spade, then what the hell is wrong with so-called normal people? |

Whatever you say paw-paw. I guess you don't remember your readin, 'ritin, and 'rithmetic... 27 is the pefect cube between 8 and 64.

How did the police endanger public safety? My impression is that by using the best equipment they had, they controlled the situation effectively and safely. And what does it have to do with liberty? The punks were committing a crime and they got busted. Liberty doesn't mean freedom to commit crimes. If there's to be a debate about the law, leave the police out of it. Their job is to enforce laws, not make them, and my impression is they did their job very efficiently. |
