We're talking apples and oranges now...

We agree, if someone is found to be using false credentials, you warn them, if that doesn't work you goto the boss... I take a different approach and say I don't care, it's none of my business. This isn't accessory after the fact, it isn't accessory at all... And as for losing my dream job? I'll get my own dream job on my own merits and ability, if someone else with a fake degree gets it and is able to perform on the same level as me? God bless. The fact of the matter is that I know my worth, my dedication, and my merit, I don't need to bolster that by damning someone who 'fudges a resume'. If you are better than they are, and you worked to get the BA, MA, or PHD, then you shouldnt have any problem replacing them. If you do have a problem, they're as good as you without the degree.

As for filling jobs? I still don't buy it... if they were that hard up, they'd be recruiting. I found out about this gig from a friend in college who had already done it and only returned home to work on a MA. I was literally shocked to find out such jobs existed... if the K-government put out literature at job fairs, etc, they'd be able to fill the positions. Personally I can already gaurantee that by the years end, when the majority of my classmates graduate (I pulled a year a community college, graduated early), an estimated 5-12 will be coming here. Why? I tell them about it, and they're just as shocked to find out all the perks as I was. A year after that when another batch of friends graduate, more will be coming through. I've actually motivated some friends who were 2ish years into college and losing their motivation to keep going so they can come here. For the money, and perks... there would be people literally lining up for jobs if only they knew, hell my Mom & Dad are thinking about trying to get a job here after my sister graduates, and my Dad is a JD, Mom is a CPA. Why? Again, perks and pay.

How much lower can the standards get? High school graduate who can pass a qualification exam.

As for point #4, we agree again, if you want to take the moral high ground and inform on someone, thats fine... if you take the money you are a piece of garbage.

#5, I agree, if you really want to go, you can... but again, I don't think the piece of paper, or the actual class time, is worth anything. Again, I stand by my call for qualification exams. I'm not trying to defend people with fake degrees, but honestly, if they can do the job well... who cares?

As for point #6? You're not a fresh off the boat college grad, I am, I'm making 1.9 (not factoring in OT)... 1.6 to 1.9? Not much, if any, of a raise there, especially factoring in the drop in the $, the rise of the won, and inflation (both domestic and foreign).

#7? It is fudging a resume... you're knowingly and deliberately lying and then signing a form attesting to the truthfulness of content. I don't care if you lied about getting a BA or lied about being part of student government.

#8? *beep* immigration.

I have visions of foreigners turning in illegals, said illegals being deported, and said foreigners never getting the reward. Mark my words.

So for all my American chums here who believe that working illegally in Korea is OK, is it also OK for someone from Mexico to work illegally in the US?

I would prefer that Mexico be a stable, economically vibrant, transparent democracy, thus depriving Mexicans, particularly Mexican Natives from a reason to risk life and limb to come north. (Same for other South and Central American countries.)
Of course the U.S. has no vested interest in doing this because it would deprive the construction and agricultural industries from cheap, easily exploitable and easily replacable labor. Not to mention the horror and degradation of millions of gringos who would be required to take care of their children and houses, feats they are seemingly genetically incapable of.

At my first kiddie hagwon they would frequently ask us if any teachers were doing privates on the side. Guess we looked like a bunch of rats.
