I remember the other day, before the Great Server Putsch of 2006 there were a lot of opinions being thrown about, most on the subject of the OP, then Yu_Bum_Suk said something to the effect of:
"...bee-dee-dee would be pointless. Much like this thread has gotten."
And I said:
"Ha-ha. But that would cross over into the Do you feel underworked thread [Because we all had time to go at it due to being exam week].
But after the putsch, those posts are MIA...
The thread had died a peaceful death. It's hospital bed ringed by relatives and friends wishing it well in the Happy Hunting Grounds.
Sigh. That was a nice feeling. |

| If by "he" you mean "she," then you are correct. TUM is female. I also would like to add that more posters than ms. Tum reply with hostility to certain posts. While most people understand that emotion can distract from a debate, in a forum such as this, feeling is what keeps the masses reading. I would chose Dave's over an object report of ESL anytime. Reason being, because you people are hilarious. |
Really? Is Homer a girl too? |

1. See that's part of the problem. Many people have never been anywhere else. Back home they were in the majority. They come to this place where suddenly they are the minority, and all of a sudden experience what MANY minorities have experienced elsewhere. And then all kinds of racism and xenophobic nonsense come flying out of their mouths directed at Korea. THAT (the hatred) is what I respond to, not the fact that they are attacking Korea. I make that very clear in my posts by mentioning such terms. Rarely do I defend Korea just for the sake of defending Korea. So does Homer. But some people will interpret my posts differently so as not to be forced to take a good long look at themselves.
3. Nope. Again I point out that the majority of my so-called "Korean defending posts" focus on the racism and xenophobia when and where it is found in people bashing Korea. THAT's (as I have said many times) bothers me.

That`s the spin you`re putting on your posting habits now that it`s under discussion, but that is not how you post. And if you really believe that is how you post then it is you that need to take a good long look at yourself. People who`ve read your posts for a decent while are probably not hopeful of that ocurrance.

As far as the printing of this thread and showing it to school officials, that left me a little miffed. Why would someone say this? Why would anyone care about what people are saying about class demos on a forum?
Yes, it is just a forum. That's why TUB's comments (threats) totally contradict his reply in stating such. I don't think anyone on here was threatening his livelyhood. What a joke. |
Guess I'm not the only one.
Ok, I've made my point. I'm done here. |

I too am going to hammer the dog and pony shows.
Not in a vicious way but I will ask if the lesson is representative of what you do every day and if the students have seen the material before.
1. No on has addressed the fact we have to be out of our schools for copious amounts of time. Maybe your classes are simply funtime with the foreigner. Mine aren't. I have a specific amount of material to get through and I don't have alot of holes in my schedule.
2. Why should I go see THE SAME TEACHER teach two times in three months? What possible good would that do? Once okay I can deal but 2 times ....what a huge waste of time.
3. Dog an Pony shows are a waste of MY TIME. Sorry but they are. If you are using movie clips, and banging IT and songs, and complicated activities in EVERY CLASS...FINE. I will be the first to applaud your efforts and give you feedback. But these classes that are so rehearsed that the students are saying EXACTLY WHAT IS ON THE PRINTED LESSON PLAN IS CRAP AND I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO WITH MY TIME! LIKE TEACH. But I promise if it is rehearsed I am going to ask you if you do this everyday. I am going to ask if your students have seen the material. And I will probably ask what you do during a NORMAL CLASS.
4. I have learned alot from some of these "open" classes. They are the classes that are pretty much like an every day class. Those are of value and are an honest representation of what you are teaching and your methods. I can give you honest feedback on that kind of class and would hope the I would get the same. On a rehearsed class I guess I can compliment the props and the ability of students to rote memorize.
I have done one dog and pony show and it left a sour taste in my mouth. I was embarrassed and felt like a fraud. Did not do another one after that and I have been at the same school for 5 years. I hopefully get better after each one. I get honest feedback and all around my classes have been received very very well with foreign teachers and Korean teachers and personell they send from various governmental offices.

(1) My flame war with spidey was for fun. I wasn't upset, I was having a bit of fun with a troll, much like I'm doing now.
Your responses to posters are serious. (2) You actually threatened to copy this thread and show it to officials to get CLG et al in trouble. Right afterwards, in the same post, you accuse them of disgusting behaviour for threatening the livelihood of others. C'mon man, that's pretty blatant.
(3) As for the xenophobic/racist comments - I never accused you of that. You're getting off topic. Again, I never said that you made (xenophobic/racist comments. I never accused you of that. Why bring it up and ask me to find your xenophobic/racist comments?
(4) What I did accuse you of is stirring the pot, aggressively going after other posters and using tactics you supposedly find disgusting in others.
(5) I stirred the pot with spidey - in jest - for fun - and spidey was an entertaining troll. You, on the other hand, make it your MO, you do it again and again.
(6) All I'm doing is pointing out the obvious, but your blinders are on, and you just can't bring yourself to admit your behaviour on this board is confrontational. And you do it in all seriousness.
Your turn. |
(numbers are mine)
1. "Having fun with a troll"..you mean you are playing with yourself? (Sorry couldn't resist )
2. I said I would do that ONLY in response should they attack my open class. They leave me alone and I will leave them alone. But like I said she clarified her stance and I have no problem (now) with her. So why are you bringing it up and attempting to keep bad blood between two other posters. That's pretty blatent trollish behaviour. If YOU have a problem with me, don't hide behind a girl.
3. You said and I quote "Yet, you do exactly what you accuse other posters of doing--" Prior to that reply I said if people post racist or xenophobic nonsense on the board then I will call them on it.
4. I believe in live and let live. But if someone states their intentions to attack a class of mine, then I will do what I deem necessary. If it means stooping to their level so be it. Sometimes that's what you have to do. I however do that with great reluctance, while other posters positively seem to enjoy it.
5. Only when posters post disturbing stuff like I mentioned above.
6. What? I never denied confronting people WHEN I believe the situation warrents it.

You could have stopped after the first paragraph
As for the second you do not work in a public school system, so why are you giving opinions on something you know nothing about? Then again that's never stopped you.
As for the third. Yes it is just a forum. So was E.S. And look what happened to it. You are entitled to your opinion but don't presume to tell me what mine is. My opinion was that I felt my liveihood under attack here. You might think it's a joke, but I certainly don't feel that way. |
