Black people have integrated well into British society over the past 40 yrs or so. You cannot deny that.
Muslims are extremely well provided for in Britain. Mosques and community centres on every block, houses and money from the social.
I knew many non white folks who were well integrated into British society: blacks and Asians.
But as a group, muslims have largely failed to assimilate. Simple things like not drinking or socialising, intermarrying or partaking in the culture have left them an island even decades after they arrived. Because the ideology in Islam keeps them separate. |
I think you've picked a poor example. I know quite a few individual blacks who've integrated quite successfully, but as a group they've not done so well. Black people have had an uphill struggle to integrate into Britain. Remember the Brixton riots? Many blacks feel that little has changed since then. I lived for several month in Haringay (a predominately black part of North London) and the seething resentment against us whiteys was apparant everywhere. It would take sometime for my black neighbours and co-workers to open up and act friendly - it was weird, they'd really test you first. Sometimes you'd be in a queue, and everyone else was black. The black attendent would act naturally with everyone else, and then when it was your turn, you'd be treated with great contempt. I really got a taste of being a minority at that time. Blacks are very much ghettoed. I'm surprised you've picked them as an example of successful integration. It's only in recent years that the rise of racism against muslims has taken the heat off them.
As a group, I also feel they've probably been much more detrimental to our society than the muslims have. They've given rise to a new and dangerous gang culture and the use of guns and gun related death is on the rise, largely due to the black community as I understand. |

Good point, graph and article.
In fact, let's be honest. A lot of the institutionalized racism in any country can be attributed to that great Nietzschean demon of "ressentiment" or resentment. To quote the eminent translator of Nietzsche, Kaufmann,

Not the steam, top of the head stuff -- rather the deep and hidden stuff that belies a lot of our actions. Me thinks, a lot of the people here on this board, suffer abundantly from this . The true opposite of LIFE, ACCEPTANCE and fearlessness (which is love).
