That is the best debating point you have ever made. |
keep in mind the "at best" part of the point. and be careful to oil when necessary. don't want to let a lack of lubrication get in the way of a talking point. |
So that is what has been on your mind all along. And I thought you came for the politics. I wouldn't want to sit in your chair after you are done. |
hm, i was more thinking about the tin man from the wizard of oz. hence the word "lubrication" rather than the more sexually-charged "lube".
but hey, if when you think "ideas" you automatically think of anal traffic, that's your trip, not mine. |
Tin Man , the Wizard , lubrication , anal traffic? Hey its your chair not mine. |
anyone who can't see the common sense in keeping a robot well-lubricated and regularly maintained shouldn't be allowed to vote. |
Talking from experience with your girl friend , or boyfriend? Who was the Wizard? |
for you, joo

Obama calls McCain's bluff:
The Senator, the source says, is willing to make the scheduled debate a townhall meeting, a one-on-one interview with NewsHours Jim Lehrer, or the combination of the two in McCains absence.
Allahpundit wobbles:
Is McCain prepared to hand The One a 90-minute campaign commercial in front of a national audience? Im guessing no,
in which case expect him to decide tomorrow morning that the bailouts close enough to being done to qualify as done, whereupon hell declare victory and hop a plane for Ole Miss. The second poll on his decision to postpone the debate is just out from Marist, incidentally, and while the numbers arent as dramatic as yesterdays Survey USA data, hes still on the wrong side. 53 percent want the show to go on, including 53 percent of independents. |

Here's an article on McCain's rush to the rescue:
http://www.truthout.org/092608K
| Quote: |
Democrats think that Republicans were backing away from a compromise many of them agreed to earlier Thursday - without McCain's involvement - in order to give McCain time to play a role and perhaps appear as a rescuer.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he believed the breakdown was simply an effort to allow McCain to miss Friday night's scheduled debate with Obama.
Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, seconded that belief. "I think McCain was hurting politically," Frank said. "I think this was a campaign ploy."
When McCain arrived in Washington to discover that an agreement was near, Frank said, it became necessary to upset it so that McCain could later be seen to have played a role. "He's making it harder to get things done," Frank said. |
| Quote: |
Also complicating final agreement was the presidential campaign. McCain said that he's suspending his campaign to help draft bipartisan legislation, and Obama's camp boasted that he'd played an important role in the executive pay negotiation.
But Banking Committee staff said that while Obama's staff stayed in touch with negotiators, the senator had no apparent role in brokering any deal.
Democrats warned McCain, who is not a member of the Senate Banking Committee, not to try to take credit for all the work the negotiators have done in recent days in his absence.
"I'm delighted that John is expressing himself on this issue," Dodd said. "I have heard from Obama on numerous occasions these last couple days. I have never heard from John McCain on the issue . . . I'm just worried a little bit that sort of politicizing this problem, sort of flying in here, I'm beginning to think this is more of a rescue plan for John McCain and not a rescue plan for the economy." |

Earlier this week, McCain abruptly suspended his campaign and requested that the debate be postponed until Congress finishes the heavy lifting of approving a bailout. That put Obama and McCain in a classic Mexican standoff with each trying to look presidential, while attempting to map out a course that would benefit him politically.
Some in the Obama-friendly media were quick to dismiss McCain's move as a political stunt. I don't know. It's not like launching one's candidacy in Springfield, Illinois, in the hopes of conjuring up comparisons to Abraham Lincoln, or moving one's convention speech to a football stadium to accommodate a larger crowd.
I think McCain deserves applause for having his priorities straight... |

From Andrew Sullivan...

I've been besieged by reader emails telling me of McCain ads blasting away on television all day. The latest:
About 11:45 am on the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia. The ad was the Angry Freddy Mac Black guy who advises Obama to burn down white peoples houses or something like that.
|
That sounds intriguing. Has anyone actually it? |

There's another way to look at it:
McCain saw an opportunity to grandstand and took it, after delaying long enough to do an interview with Katie Couric to cover for the disasterous one Palin did with her. He gets to Washington and fails to do anything to rally/lead his party to close the deal. In fact, the deal fell apart after he arrived. And now he's doing the debate even though the bill hasn't passed. It's perfectly possible to see this as a completely failed strategy.
Where should Obama have announced his campaign? He's from Illinois and it is usual for candidates to kick off in their home state capital. He'd served in Springfield in the state legislature. It never hurts if you can add a little symbolism as well. That Springfield is where Lincoln lived and is buried is just frosting on the cake. It's certainly better than Reagan going most of the way across the country to Selma, Alabama (the Heart of Dixie) to announce he'd be defending states rights in his kick off rally. |
