Seriously. I love the people who are taking this opportunity to take cheap shots at all things Korean. Koreans are sick f*cks. Blah blah blah.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/south_yorkshire/7747711.stm
So based on the above news story, I guess I can conclude that all Brits are sick f*cks too. Even sicker and more backwards than Koreans. |
I agree we shouldn't be quick to condemn all Koreans for some batty old judge's judgement; clearly his verdict was against public opinion. However, I think the outrage is not related so much to the crime, but the verdict itself. Bad shit happens all the time, but verdicts as bad as this don't. |
The verdict is a damn shame. And yeah, I realize that there are major problems within the Korean justice system. But show me a country where justice is served all the time, and I'll shutup. |
It's impossible that justice can be served all the time in any country. However there can be a big difference in the degree of injustice.
Can you name an instance in a western country in modern times where people have been found guilty of repeatedly raping an underage girl over a period of several years and not had to serve any jail time? |

The grandfather is 87 so I can understand him not having to go to jail to a certain extent. However the uncles are 57, 42 and 39 according to the petition. What a joke.

Let's see....the old monster didn't take into cosideration the girl's age and mental illness, and a grandfather no less yet the courts should take pity on him due to his age and physical health......yea.....I can see the logic....
Even if the bastard's in the guiness book of records for oldest living man, I'd still castrate the m.f.er. 'Least he can be in the oldest castrated living man category. |

What about the men. A grandfather, and uncles. How come they had to do it with one of their own when they could have easily gotten their rocks off with some of the more available young agoshis that I am sure were around and about.
Maybe they were so loathsome that no matter how much money they were willing to offer for sex there were no takers.
Still, there has got to be some serious emotional and mental problems in the family line. The young child could have been the last in the line of mental cases that existed in the family tree. Grandfather was stricken with it and the same defect got passed down to the other men. Could be in breading even.
Was a case several years ago where a young underage girl was rapped by men young and old in a small Korean village, and that come time to go to court the judge threw the case out rather than convict the men because of the shame it would have bought on the village. Hows that. Similar situation to this even. Seems to be a trend in the legal proceedings to rule against young girls regardless of the offense. lf so then some legal proceedings suck to high hell in Korea, as do the brainless gutless, devoid of moral fibre, legal personnel who stick to them. |

Seriously. Korea is F*ed up.
What do you think would of happened if one of the uncles or the grandfather was not Korean and only related by marriage or something.
Probation? I think not.
This country is a crooked piece of bullshit when it comes to justice and raacism.
Again, tell me? Do you think if one of these sick rapists was white or southeast Asian this would have been the result? |

This is my understanding of Korea...save face cause the truth sucks.
This seems to happen far too often here from basic things like turning a blind eye to students who can't meet the English language requirements to...rape. If it is embarassing, bury it.
That being said, the shit also rolls down hill. Those at the bottom have to suck it up so those at the top don't feel bad about it.
So you have a sort of two faced society that is quick to harass women for sexual offences (such as the poor lady who was given jail time for cheating on her husband or the famous Englishspectrum gate a few years back) yet quick to forgive men, even omit them, from the discussion of sexual ethics (such as the case in point).
things should change though as the Hoju system which legally supported such unequal legal practices has finally been abolished. it will take a bit of time for all those country judges out there, the media, and the general public to catch up though.
How exactly other areas of confucius thinking and saving face will move into the future is...well, up to Koreans, as I don't get it. |

good question. I would hate to be here if they were pale faces.
it would be all over the head lines, every teacher would need to go in for screening (not just the health check or the criminal record check, they would be doing psyche exams on all of us and kickin those with profiles that might fit out without compensation), there would be candle lit vigils, they would be trying to push for the death penalty and supress our countries governments from intervening, and random Koreans would swear at you on the street just because you were pale faced (calling you whatever nationality the person was who commited the offence).
it would be good times in the land of the Han. |

It's not the face saving that's the problem, it's the deep rooted male chauvinism of Korea and other Asian countries. |

I've heard the mom jerking off the teenaged son is sorta common here, but had no idea it extended to male family members gang-raping their infant daughters. |
I've never heard of this. Where did you hear that from, and what would be the justification for it? Sounds far-fetched (but not wholly unbelievable). This is Korea we are talking about, after all. |
Read it here on Dave's a while back, but with a link to some academic paper. |

While this such behavior with infant males has been witnessed in many cultures, I have seen no such documentation involving teenage sons anywhere.
Unless you can find that link, I'll have to call BS on that one in Korea or aywhere. |

I've heard that rumor too, about mothers "relieving" their teenage sons. I don't think it's true, though. |

Gee, in a society where young girls are ignored, wonder how in the world that ajosshi raped more than 50 school girls before getting caught? I'm also wondering how many serial pedos are running around with a virtual green light. This country has some strange ways of doing things... |

Ah, that's why Korean guys are so jealous of us foreigners. You're not just dating his sister, you're dating his girlfriend and lover too. |
