I consider the must haves to be the following: Google, Facebook, Skype, and Shazam.
Other apps that have come in handy are
1. Whatsapp - for free text messaging to other iphone and blackberry users. ($0.99)
2. ewifi - for recognizing the wifi signals around.
3. UYH - (Use Your Handwriting) this app has been really useful. I can scratch words on the screen quickly and easily and then the they go into customizable lists. Later on the entry can be swiped away.
4. Google Voice app - (Not really an app but a link to the webpage) lets me send text messages to America and Korea for free. -Must have a googlevoice account.
5. KorSubway - for a simply free app that shows each cities metro. The upgrade is a little expensive and only gives a few small bonuses.
6. BatteryMaster free- for seeing how much time I have left to talk, surf, or play video.
7. mbdrive - makes iphone into a giant wireless jump drive minus the usb connection (can only be used with computers with wifi).
8. The news apps I like are msnbc.com, NPR, TIME, USA Today, NYTimes, and TED which is like youtube but for intellectuals.
9. Odiyar - helps find the nearest subway stations.
10. Lingopal and WN Korean - for reviewing and learning basic travel phrases. Both of these are good; they cover all the survival Korean you need to know. Entries are written in English, Hangul, and a voice option for listening to a native speaker is available.
11. itranslate - for translating
12. Virtuoso and Free drum - for playing simple music
13. Pandora and Free Apps - for fee apps
14. Flashlight - for lighting things up in the dark.
14. Conversions
15. Show Today weblink- monitors how many minutes, text messages, and data. (must sign up on website first)
16. Slideshow lite and Frame Lite - viewing pics
17. Get Talking - conversation starters at the coffee shop
18. Private - for taking and storing pics that others can't see, even has a decoy folder ($0.99)
19. Awesomenotelite - for taking notes. Can sync with google docs and password protect some files. Although for normal notes I still use the default app. Or
Lockednote - much more simple lock note program.
20. Exposure - timer program for camera as well as other features.
21. I'm lost / The office (take me home) - 1 button directions to get to a certain preset location.
22. Now Playing - Instantly finds movie theaters around your location. Gives you the show times of all the movies playing and can even link to google maps to give you directions there. And yes it even works in korea.
Lastly, it is not an app but the website http://www.zedge.net has tons of free wall papers and ringtones.

Had some technical problems with my I-phone, had to restore the settings. Is there any way to save the apps on I-tunes on my computer? Once restored, the apps could be forwarded back to the phone (worked for contacts but not apps).
Has Apple recently blocked all apps for bikini pics? I know they blocked porn, but I cannot find any of my previous apps on hot bikini pics! (Asian Hot was amazing) |

Every time you sync your iPhone it backs up your apps on iTunes. |

Or you could try the Google or Bing app. |

Installed the Shinhan Banking app. Unfortunately it doesn't work. An error pops up saying that it does not work on jailbroken iphones/ipods!!!
Damn.
This is the first app I have ever tried to use that gave me that message. |

Bump.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? How can I stop the app from detecting that my phone is jailbroken?
Cheers. |

WOOHOO!!!
Justin.TV app for the Iphone/Ipod. Works on Wifi AND 3G.
I suggest creating a Justin.TV account and adding your channels to favorites. When you start the app, you can sign in and go directly to your favorites to watch what you want.
the App doesn't let you pick Categories.
I watched a stream on 3G for a minute. It used about 2mb of data for 1 min. of video.
Considering how cheap it is to go over your Data Plan minutes, I'm not concerned about watching Justin.TV on the Bus/Subways whenever. Even if I went 1GB over (which would be like 8 hours of streaming), I'd still only pay like 20,000w extra. |

If you want to do a lot of mobile streaming with your iphone pick up a Wibro Egg. $25~ a month with a 50 GB plan, 5 hours battery.
You'll need a Korean friend/co-teacher to help you. |

I used to use Wibro. I tried it out when they had their 15 days trial. The signal was great outdoors, but as soon as you went inside a building it got bad. I remember sitting next to a window on a 10th floor officetel in the middle of Gangnam with very poor signal strength. Does Wibro work underground in the subways too? |

I've made skype calls from the subway, and its worked inside the bowels of a basement emart. Seems to be fine.
It is based on wimax though, its purpose is for huge distances outside, it isn't meant to work surrounded in concrete and steel but it does a reasonable job.
all of the subway stations have relay stations in them |

Line2 places its calls over Wi-Fi instead of AT&T's network.
That's a game-changer. Where, after all, is cellphone reception generally the worst? Right -- indoors. In your house or your office building, precisely where you have Wi-Fi. Line2 in Wi-Fi means rock-solid, confident reception indoors. |
Apparently this guy has never heard of skype, which already does that.
This is an ad masquerading as an article.
he also mentions the ipod touch and I can't find it on the Canadian App store with my ipod touch.
Apparently the app is region restricted.
its also $15/month
unlimited calling in North America with skype is around $7/month. |
