Your point is well received.
If you have to be in a lot of places at different times this app would really help to keep one organized. |

I agree that if all you have is an iPhone, it is almost certainly not worth it. Also, even though MobileMe is available for Windows, it does not work very well with Windows (except for Safari) as it has to convert the Microsoft contacts and calendars to the Mac version. So, I also wouldn't recommend it for someone who has a PC and an iPhone. It probably wouldn't work as seamlessly as it should for the price.
However, if you have a Mac (or two, or three) and an iPhone and/or an iPad, MobileMe can be a huge time and effort saver. It really works very, very seamlessly with the relevant Apple applications (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Safari bookmarks, and Notes).
Also, on the Mac, you can use your MobileMe disk space (20GB) to host a personal website using the iWeb application. It is a very easy way to put up your pictures, movies, and blog to share with your friends and family.
Again, without a Mac (or even multiple Macs), the value of MobileMe decreases greatly.
And Dropbox? I just can't say enough about Dropbox. It has to be one of the greatest and easiest to use programs out there. It has made life with my computers so much easier. I absolutely love it. |

itunes for windows is exactly the same as for mac from my experiences...the major difference being there are much better programs available for windows that i can use that don't hog resources even more so now that quicktime is bundled with it. itunes' weaknesses are apple's bcuz they're the ones that produced it.

| The biggest problem I have with Android is that I still don't trust Google. It's a company that makes all of its money from advertising. I just don't see how you can trust Google to not sell your personal information to advertisers. It seems a bit like trusting the wolf not to eat the chickens when you leave him in the henhouse. |
so you don't trust google...but you trust apple? that doesn't really make sense. it's like saying coke is an evil corporation, but pepsi is cool! they're both in the same business and use the same tactics, this GPS tracking "scandal" proved that much. |

Sorry thurst, but you're wrong about everything.
If you have used iTunes on a Mac and have used it on Windows, you can most certainly feel a difference. On the Mac, it has far fewer problems, it runs much more smoothly, and it integrates very well with the OS and with other applications.
On Windows, it is not smooth, it is very buggy and crash prone, and it does not integrate well with the OS or with other applications.
I would bet that most of this is due to issues in Windows more than iTunes. For example, it is Microsoft that determines how deeply any program can integrate into the OS.
Also, it makes perfect sense to say I don't trust Google while also saying that I trust Apple much more than I do Google.
Google makes all of its money from advertising. Apple does not. That alone gives Google the incentive to sell my information to advertisers. How would selling my info to advertisers benefit Apple? Apple makes its money from the "over-priced hardware, software, and apps" that you Windows and Android users so like to bash. Apple is loaded to the hilt with cash. It has no need to sell information to advertisers to make profits each quarter. Google does.
Also, if you really read the news instead of simply focusing on anything negative written about Apple, you would have seen that Google is collecting your data in a much more dangerous and intrusive way. In many cases, your information sent via Android is open and exposed, and can be accessed by the wrong individuals.
In recent weeks, many computer security experts have publicly stated that Apple's information gathering is closed and appears to be an unnoticed bug in the system. However, they have all agreed that Google's data collection appears to be deliberate and a bit too open for comfort.
Any GPS phone, smartphone or otherwise, is going to keep your data and location information. Hell, if you have a newer digital camera with GPS it also keeps track of your location in the metadata of the picture. Anything with GPS is going to keep track of your location. What's the big deal about this? If you lose your phone in Korea, you can go to the SK or KT office and they will print out all of your contacts, messages, etc. That means they have access to everything on your phone. But, do KT, SK, or Apple have the incentive to sell your information to advertisers? No. Does Google? Yes.
That's why this is not the same as Coke and Pepsi. |

Is this a joke statement? You basically just said that an organization who's sole purpose is to create profit won't sell your information. If Apple doesn't want to use/sell your info for profit why do you think they collect it? |

Apple used to use Google's tracking, but ditched it because they felt the info would get into unauthorized hands. Apple is now consolidating their own location database through location services. This was all announced last summer but it seems all the haters keep ragging on.
Apple then collects information about nearby cell towers and Wi-Fi access points whenever you utilize a service that requests your current location. It also automatically happens with location-based apps that utilize GPS technology.
Apps that utilize it, such as expense account mileage calculators, and location recall apps that notify you when you are driving past the dry cleaners for example and you have forgotten you have to make a pick up.

dude you're obviously drinking the apple kool-aid, way too much.
the fact that you think it's microsoft's fault that itunes sucks is ridiculous is possibly the dumbest thing i've read today. so i guess i shouldn't really be surprised that you think google is an evil corporation...yet you're perfectly willing to believe apple is some benevolent organization that would never do anything to completely dick you over. |

Attention all stupid people: Please learn to read before making comments.
No, it is not a joke statement. Which part of it confused you? I DID NOT SAY THAT "AN ORGANIZATION WHOSE (yes, it's whose and not "who's") SOLE PURPOSE IS TO CREATE PROFIT WON'T SELL YOUR INFORMATION.
Where did you get that?
I said that Google makes almost all of its money through advertising and THEREFORE, has a motive to collect and sell information. How do you think Google makes a living? They don't charge users to find information on the Internet, they don't charge smartphone makers for the OS. THEY MAKE MONEY FROM ADVERTISING!!!! One great way to do this is to sell the location information of your users to the advertisers. Why would Home Depot want to advertise to you if you are in Korea? They wouldn't because there are no Home Depot stores in Korea. This is why advertisers want this kind of information.
Apple is a hardware company. It makes its money when you buy a computer, phone, iPod, iPac, etc. Ever wonder why the Mac OS has no CD Key or serial number, or why iOS upgrades are free? Apple makes its money by selling hardware. Therefore, my original point remains.
Apple has no motivation to sell your information for profit. However, Google does. I dare you to prove otherwise. Show me where all of Google's money is coming from? |

OK Thurst. What exactly has Apple done to "dick you over?" You seem to be implying that something terrible has been done to you by Apple. Please share.
Furthermore, I did not say it was Microsoft's fault that the iTunes experience on Windows was not on par with the Mac. I simply said that there might be issues that Apple cannot work around because Microsoft controls how deeply a program can integrate with the OS.
This means it is NOT Microsoft's fault; it IS Microsoft's choice... Please look up these two words in the dictionary if you are having trouble following.
On a Mac, Apple makes the OS and iTunes and can therefore allow iTunes access to many system level resources. These same resources may not be available to the iTunes developers on Windows because for whatever reason, Microsoft does not allow it.
Go ahead. Let's see what words you try to put in my mouth for round two. |

Regarding the "collection of data collection"
My perception of the issue is this. Both Apple and Driod phones gather location data. On Droid devices that data can be deleted and you can choose weather or not to allow that data to be collected. Furthermore that collected data is kept behind a firewall protected server so if police or other people want access to this data it would require a court subpoena.
Apple does the same but without the the firewall thus the information can be pulled from the device by anybody. Also there is no way to delete this information from apple devices. Although there may now be some Apps which can do that.

Chokse, without trying to offend you, try not to take criticisms of apple so harshly. You criticize others for acting like Apple has offended them yet you defend Apple like it's your girlfriend. (or boyfriend) that's not meant as a gay joke. Just trying to take into account that you have 3 mac's an iphone and an ipad. |

Goochmon: No offense taken. Also, I did not criticize Thurst for being dicked around by Apple. I criticized him for claiming this without showing it. It is pretty clear the guy has never used an Apple device other than perhaps an iPod, so I'd be interested to hear how he was "dicked around". The only thing I pointed out to Thurst was that both companies are collecting data so neither is completely innocent in this. And, while I have no proof of this (educated guess), I know which company has a good motive to release that information to advertisers.
I base this educated guess on experience. I have both Apple Mail and Gmail. I use Gmail a few times a month while I use my Apple Mail every day (20 or more times each day). The Gmail is free while I pay for the Apple Mail. Even though I use it every day, I get perhaps, one or two SPAM (advertisements) sent to my Apple Mail account each month. On the other hand, I hardly ever use my Gmail account, yet I get dozens of SPAM messages sent to it weekly. It can't be a coincidence that the free and relies on advertising mail service is so full of SPAM while the paid email service is almost void of spam. It is pretty clear that Apple is not selling my email address to advertisers. I'm not so sure that Google is not simply by the sheer variety of SPAM that I get and the infrequency with which I use Gmail. It's pretty shocking.
As to my defense of Apple, I have been using its products since the very early 1980s and they have always served me well. In addition, Apple has made me a millionaire so I have reason to defend it. Wouldn't you defend your gravy train?
Finally, for police to take any information from any phone, it requires a court order (warrant). It doesn't matter where or how that data is stored or transmitted. A warrant is required for police to gain access to any personal information.
Regardless of device, if someone gets hold of your phone, that person can cull information from the phone. This is true of smart and non-smart phones. If you lose your phone, you're pretty much screwed and that's just the way it goes. Also, your phone carrier keeps most of this information as well. Just go in and tell them you have lost your phone. They'll print out all of your texts, contacts, calls made/received, etc. Their computers are open to hacking as well.
The fact that someone can access your data is moot. There are too many ways this can be done and it is often too easy to do. I am much more concerned about what happens once Apple or Google gets that information. In the years I have used Apple's personal data syncing and email, I have never felt that my information has been given out to advertisers. The amount of SPAM in my Gmail account tells me that Google very well may be doing this. And, to be fair, I can understand wy Google would do this. Google has to make money to keep its shareholders happy. |

Foxcomm??? LOL!!! This was "news" almost a year ago.
That Guardian reporter seems to have missed checking facts in reprinting an article from May 2010, because Foxcomm is the same company that also makes parts for:
Microsoft
Samsung
Asus
Dell
Intel
Acer
Cisco
Hewlett-Packard
Amazon
Nintendo
Nokia
Sony
Sony Ericsson
Vizio
And there are more minor clients, all under the same labor schedules...But again lets single out Apple. Did you think about it when you bought your Mac? Did you know that only Apple, Dell and HP investigated the issue? |

Those other companies don't have the same self-righteousness of Apple. That's why it needs to be pointed out. |
