I think a previous poster was correct in that you seem to be quite reactionary.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think 'reactionary' means? It's really irritating to "watch" people grope around for the word they need, not find it, and then settle for something that sounds a bit like what they really mean. Why not just use an easier word that you actually understand?

Guilty as charged. I botched the meaning for sure. Thanks for that. However there was no groping involved; it was more of a snatch. So what would a good word be for one being so overly emotional as to jump to irrational conclusions? Emotional works but doesn't quite cut it in this case.

What a mature and gracious reply.

Best,

SS

Shapeshifter, was that a hint aimed at the flame warriors on this thread?

Steelrails, perhaps I was . . .

Steelrails, perhaps I was a little bit . . .

Steelrails, maybe what you said was . . .

Sorry, I can't do it.

Kindy kids are like cats. Hell yeah, hug them whether they like it or not. It's frakkin adorable.

The next time I want to hug one of my kindergarten students,
shall I hug that child whether he wants it or not?
Suppose the director objects.
I'll just say, "But Steelrails says I have the right!"
I'm sure the director will say, "Oh, then that's different! We can't disagree with Steelrails because that will make us socially maladjusted!"

Uhh, there is a major difference between grandma and kindergarten students.

Duh.

How can you not recognize that?

Oh wait, you compared hugging grandma to child prostitution.

That's two strikes on the absolute nuts pitch count.

@pucciniphile-

I tried to be supportive of you earlier; give you the benefit of the doubt.

Later I thought "well maybe she's a little bit 'slow' or 'special', we should show some restraint"(which steelrails has done 10 fold).

But after your last post? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Agreed.
Is there also a major difference between forcing children to hug grandmas and forcing children to hug English teachers?
If there is, then please enlighten me by explaining to me what it is.

I sure did.

So far, you haven't explained much of anything to me.
You've called me "flippant," "mindless," "arrogant," "insane," and "socially maladjusted."
You've said that I "have failed in life somehow."
You've called me "an absolute nut."
You've called my opinions "ludicrous."
You've said that I "might have some issues,"
You've questioned my "sanity, character, and social well-being."
You've accused me of "developing a complex," and you've said I "have a few screws loose."
But all the ad hominem attacks in the world won't substitute for sticking to the issue.

Grandmas are family.

Is making your child wash the dishes after dinner slavery?

In the case of someone equating hugging their grandmother with child prostitution I feel ad hominem is perfectly acceptable because the character and sanity of the person is in question.

The issue is that brattish behavior by kids in restaurants is reflective of the me me me entitlement mindset combined with a kids first sense of discipline that seems to permeate your posts.

The difference between hugging grandma and buying sex is this- No sexual arousal is involved.

Duh.

Boxing and fighting both involve people hitting each other. One is a sport, the other is a crime. Duh.

He is sticking to the issue. The issue is your logical connections between unrelated concepts are just plain strange. (see: hugging grandma and child prostitution linkage) Ad hominems are just icing on the cake. Sorry, but you might look into the "might have some issues" statement, which is not really an ad hominem but an opinion. Also, please don't call yourself an atheist. You give the rest of us a bad name.

I had to look up "prozzie."
For anyone else who doesn't know, it's an Australian prostitute.

I don't know, because I've never done much study on how prostitutes relate with children.
Probably not very well, because I've read that Brahms played the piano at a whorehouse when he was a child.
During work breaks, the women would take him in their laps and do things to him which weren't very nice.
That left him with life-long hang-ups.

I could think of other possibilities which would be at least as bad:

▶ What if she's the Grimm Brothers' witch, who will change the child into gingerbread?

▶ What if she's one of Roald Dahl's witches, who will change the child into a mouse?

▶ What if she's Anne Geddes?

▶ What if she's my director?

Anyway, I'm curious about how NYC Gal learned this word if she's from New York City.

New York's a fairly international crowd in some areas. It's not hard to figure out what it means if it's in context. I just asked my husband if he knew the term, and he does, and he's from London.

Was I really underachieving for not knowing what a prozzie is?
I humbly apologize.

How about we change those attack from attacks on you, to attacks on your posts. Because honestly, those are pretty fair descriptions of your posting style.
