In fact they are. Driver's are like punters in gridiron. You'd think anybody could kick, right? Wrong. Punters are people with very precise body control, like fighter pilots or samurai swordsmen or decathletes or ballet dancers. Drivers don't fit the traditional image of athletics because they have different muscular needs. You need strength in different and usually not noticeable places to fight the 4-g forces doing the corners. |

Obviously dry humour isn't an American sport.

Ok. And more kids play soccer in Canada than any other sport, including hockey. So I guess hockey isn't big there, either, and soccer should overtake it any day now. |
Off the cuff, sarcastic, dry jokes don't usually go on for nine written sentences. |

It was one sentence, maybe two.
But please keep responding. We now know for sure this hockey loss is really bothering you, which I find hilarious.
Did you cry? |

This is much more amusing if you imagine a drunk Canadian screaming it over the roar of a typical expat bar scene: "This is important and you should care! Admit that you care! |

Yeah, I always find it amusing when top athletes are thrown in race cars or jet fighters and end up puking and blacking out. That whole "race car drivers aren't athletes" noise gets thrown out.
Anyways, its nice to see me and SenorNegroGato on the same side of an issue for once. |

Here is all of what you wrote about how hockey is an exciting game, moreso than baseball:
As for talking about personal preferences, that was also my point. Someone said hockey is boring, and I said I differed on that opinion. Thus, it's just an 'opinion'. But as a baseball fan, and former player, I do have to say that there is no way baseball is more exciting than any sport anywhere. That's just a fact. It's fun, especially in the stadium. But it's not exciting, or at least it rarely is. But back to hockey, I really believe if you think it's "boring" you have no idea what you're talking about. I've heard a lot of criticisms about the sport over the years, some I agree with, some I don't (fair enough). But "boring" only comes out very rarely, and from people who haven't even seen a game. Most of the criticism is that it's too fast and too much is going on at once to follow along.
Much more than a sentence or two. So not only are you a ..., but you don't know how to count either. |

| I just find nationalism terrifying. I think some of you have no idea what you're talking about with this 'us and them' nonsense. We're human beings, but if you're all more interested in belonging to your national groups, carry on. You won't ever consider how brutal it is. "Nah, man, it's just sports." No. It's what you think that's frightening. You really believe you are American or Canadian or whatever. It's scary. Yeah, unfortunately the whole damn world is doing the same thing. |

Yeah, it's really, really frightening isn't it? Makes me not want to go out or use the internet for fear of coming across it sometimes. |

The sentences referring to baseball vs hockey as exciting count to 4, including a sentence fragment. So yes, more than 1-2, you're right. But neither is it 9 like you said. Seems we both can't count.
However, you're the one who took those 4 sentences out of everything I've written on this thread and made it all about that. This is typical behaviour of someone who has been proven wrong; instead of dealing with the facts at hand (which have proven them wrong again and again) they concentrate on micro-incidents of grammar and technicalities. I'm still not sure how the amount of sentences I wrote about baseball affects the popularity of hockey in the US, which is the topic at hand. But I look forward to you pointing out a spelling error to prove your "point". |

Nice try at projecting, there. I've asked several times why it's so important to you guys to prove that hockey (and soccer) don't matter to Americans, and your only replies have been:
1) Sentence counting on an irrelevant point;
2) "I'm rubber, you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you!"
I don't care that Canada beat the US in hockey, and I've said that several times. But you are wrong to say no Americans care about hockey at all. If you want to find facts to disprove those that I have provided then that's fine. But you haven't. You guys have just resorted to personal insults and distractions, which leads me to believe it actually is important to you. I don't care if you admit it or not, but the fact that you keep coming here trying to insult me for simply pointing out facts that have nothing to do with your national pride tells me you really do care. So now I'm starting to laugh at you.
I've said many times I care about hockey as a sport, that's why I'm here. If you don't care about hockey or Canada beating you, why the hell are you still here? |

What's with the 'you guys' and 'your' replies thing? You seem confused as to who you are even replying to.
Anyway, I'm sorry if it hurts that hockey is considered a second, hell even third or fourth, rate sport.
'I' in turn am laughing at you now for nearly single-handedly taking this thread into however many pages it has gone into. LOL at that. |

Nope, doesn't hurt me at all seeing as I have agreed that hockey is the 4th most popular sport in the US several times.
And again, you try to distract from the subject at hand by coming at me personally. Trying to shame me by saying I care too much doesn't count for much since you keep coming back. Like I said, I'm here because I love hockey. Why are you here if, as you say, "you don't care"? |

No, my friend, that is not it. I am not trying to be a jerk here. I am saying this is a real thing, a problem that the whole world has in common. It is not something easily resolved. When you and I are heavily invested, psychologically and emotionally, from our backgrounds, like seeds in the ground that grow up into trees, into being a certain thing, such as an American or a Korean or a communist or Christian or Hindu or whatever the mind likes, is that not a divisive factor? Don't we fight over all that? Now we have these deeply ingrained and well embedded ideas of ourselves which are images we project, which we have absorbed by our own cultures that tell us these things are so. It's mass propaganda, but nonetheless we have taken it in, consciously or not.
You will avoid a car that is coming towards you. You see the danger in it. You will not step around nationalism or belonging to larger groups, which you know is a trick of thought, and a fantasy, because there is comfort in it, though it is as dangerous as the car coming to kill you. There is a great tragedy in all this. People have killed and died to protect ideas, and will keep doing so. Millions have died, as we all know. Now, if it is your own son, off to war to die for some stupid ideal, you might be interested. Otherwise, you will say, well, this is just some nonsense spouted by some jerk on the internet who thinks he is being clever or original. I'm not interested in being clever or original, do you follow? I'm concerned with the way human beings destroy each other over ideas they seek in their quest for psychological comfort, which is mostly a mass illusion.
By the way, sorry to get all deep and stuff, how is life in Shanghai? I was there on a few occasions. Bunch of people in a rush to go nowhere was my impression.
