You don't have to be a bastion of anything to avoid anoying other people in conversations about their culture. All you have to do is

1) Consider how much you really know about a subject before opening your mouth
2) Think about and care about how what you say might be received by other people.

It seems that Korea may have invented heated floors.

-or at least co-invented them.
