Maybe I'm keeping it real. Breaking up the monotony is encouraged. Doing so by making up things to fit a narrative is one way of doing it. I get you. Your game is obvious. No problem.

I don't understand.

Yes, you do. I know, you know, and anyone that has read any of your posts knows.

My Korean friend told me there is a saying "would you rather live in an exciting hell or a boring paradise?", he used it to describe Korea vs the West.

We both choose exciting hell. Smile

LOL. This never happened.

Nope, it happened.

No, it didn't. You are just bored and making things up to get a response. That's fine.

Considering my friend hadn't been back to Korea in a decade, I'm guessing we have different friends.

That's why I left buddy. But essentially the fact remains uncontested that Korea is only exciting if you enjoy the limited range of options Korea excels at i.e. cheap booze, prostitutes, shopping and pig fat.

Great, nobody cares.

Kimchininja is a gyopo troll.
He has created a persona of being a venture capitalist who lives in Gangnam who makes hundreds of millions of won per year.
He posts silly shit to rile people up. But it's quite funny as he often gets angry and hurt when people post topics like this or anything else that paints Korea in a negative light.

FTFY

Seriously if that's all you found here there's no shame in that. Many expats here fail to scratch below the surface. Just don't make the mistake in believing all you found was all there was.

Doesn't this expression about boring heaven and exciting hell mostly boil down to the fact that, just like when Koreans talk about Western food' they mean hamburgers and pizzas, when they talk about 'the West' they basically mean Bancouber?

Canada-centric much?

2 million Korean immigrants in the States.

200,000 Korean immigrants in Canada.

Sure. If you prefer your little alteration.

But that leads me to ask myself why I only found those same general things ad infinitum in Seoul but have found so much more real "excitement" in Tokyo and now, the much smaller, Fukuoka?

Hmmmm.

Easier to find there?

I never said things were easy here. I only stated that your inability to find them doesn't preclude their existence.

Simple really.

I'm from the UK mate but nearly all the Koreans I meet seem to want to go to Canada. Anyway the point is still the same - in this context, 'for 'The West' read the places Koreans emigrate to.

And why shouldn't it? When foreigners say that Korea is exciting, we're not talking about a mountaintop in south Jeolla.

That's kind of my point. When foreigners say Korea is exciting, they're probably thinking of the best nightlife Seoul has to offer, which they have actually experienced and which probably is the most exciting element of Korea. Koreans mean the same when they say Korea is exciting. However, when a Korean says 'The West' is 'boring' he might well just be thinking of Vancouver, New Malden, or whatever place they settle in the States. Rather than the more exciting elements/areas in the Western world.
