Well maybe it is the norm for married men....not so much for married women. 79 percent of married men but only 15.5 percent of married women in their 30s and 40s admitted adultery in South Korea.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2008/12/why-is-adultery/

From what I recall the stats for divorces due to infidelity are about 40-60. In 40% of the cases, it was the wife who cheated and in 60% of the cases it was the husband who cheated.

The actual ratio of men and women cheating on their spouse might not be the same but it's another way to look at it. It's probably also a very accurate number (in divorce cases, at least). I suspect that the number is higher for men, but it's hard to say how high it actually is. The survey from the article above comes from a popular women's magazine (not a scientific journal) so without knowing how the survey was actually conducted we have to consider the possibility that the results may have been skewed - possibly by a low number of men completing the survey or possibly by the introduction of false data (e.g., some of the 'men' who filled it out may not have been real). Let's face it, not a lot of men read women's magazines.

I read everything. The problem is you have no clue what you're talking about. You continually carried on about what the OP did being illegal, and it isn't illegal under Korean law. You then climbed on your high horse over someone supporting that, but you were way off the mark since this wasn't illegal.

You're still barking up the wrong tree. I only made one comment directed at the OP about a notch in a belt.

You seem to think I take some moral issue against adultery and drug use. I don't . I only wondered at kimchininja's rant against the teachers on the other thread in contrast with his complements here. That's it.

The fact that this was not technically illegal after all was revealed after what he and I had already posted. But the legality was not really the issue to me, just the rationale behind KN's sentiments.

And incidentally,

But whatever. I don't give a rat's ... if the OP "gets away with it."

Did I say your high horse was directed at the OP?

Quote:
Ah, so that’s what you write for this crime, punishable by two years imprisonment (here in Korea…because you are in Korea now) but for ESL teachers who do drugs, you write…

Quote:
Just pointing out your contradicting standards on adhering to Korean laws.

Quote:

Exactly my point. You're ok with this law being broken, but you made some pretty rhetorical statements in a nearby thread about drug laws being broken.

Quote:
So now you're basing your argument on probable outcomes. This is not consistent with what you were saying before. And the likelihood of these outcomes (getting caught doing one or the other) are relative to the ability of the culprit in keeping from getting caught.

Both these laws are taken seriously (and can be seen as stupid) if you're caught. Korea is second only to your run of the mill ME country when it comes to punishment for adultery. There are definitely negative outcomes.

On the other hand, neither are a problem if you aren't caught.

So, again, why the rant on the other thread and the high five here?

That's a whole lot of wrong, and with that many replies and harping, you obviously do care.

The legality is entirely the issue since you were getting on him for dismissing something illegal in one thread and applauding an illegal thing in another thread. The fact that this thing isn't illegal basically destroys the entire premise for your existence in this thread.

I've read and been told the opposite. Being separated is an indication that the marriage isn't in a normal state of affairs and that negates an adultery crime.

If you're going to intervene in a two-sided discussion, then you may try looking at what the other side wrote. This is making you look silly. Rolling Eyes You're still not seeing what I was getting at. I posted again to try to clear that up for you. But see it how you want.

This thread has gotten uninteresting. Seriously, the only question we should be asking is how did this happen. I'm guessing some kind of work dinner with Soju.

The OP itself is uninteresting, What's so interesting about a guy having sex with an ajumma? Too common to warrant a thread unless this guy was a virgin.

I am pretty sure adultery is still illegal in Korea and can result in serious payouts to the wronged party.

Does anyone know if the bit on the side can get sued as well?

Criminal Act, Article 241 dictates that adultery shall be punished by imprisonment of 2 years or less for both the adulterous spouse and his/her partner in crime, BUT it shall be so if and only if the aggrieved spouse officially files a report, under Section 2 of the article. In practice, though, the penal code applies only if there exists irrefutable hard evidence, not circumstantial.

Criminal charges are, if established, separate from civil litigation concerning adultery.

When I worked in public school, my co-teacher's best friend, sued her husband because of adultery. He was a high school teacher. He got fired and lost his pension. It was the big scandal of the school. So, I guess one should not participate in illegal activities and then boast on this site.
