We had a guy apply awhile ago at my company. First, he sent out a mass e-mail, which is tacky. Second, the contents included a description about how he had just been hired by a hogwan and then fired after a day. He said it was because he was hearing-impaired and used a hearing aid. He was currently crashing at someone's apt., and was literally begging for a job. He was like, I'll do anything you want, I won't complain, you can pay me less than whatever you're currently offering, I'll work overtime for nothing, etc., etc.

I felt sorry for the guy, but... Shocked Confused

Example 2: A guy who had held a couple of jobs as an undertaker. (My company is looking for someone with experience, but, er, not that kind of experience Laughing)

Example 3: Another guy whose only job experience was at A. McDonald's, and B. as a farm hand. (At the very least, we need someone with EFL teaching experience~)

Then there are the ppl that send photos of themselves looking drunk or stoned- they automatically go in the trash can, as do ppl who are dressed inappropriately (my company is very conservative, and showing lots of cleavage ain't gonna get you hired. One girl came to an interview showing lots of cleavage, as well, and the panel was very embarrassed Laughing ).

Then there are people who write, "I need to hear back from you ASAP because I have a lot of job offers." Rolling Eyes That doesn't go over very well. Same with ppl who call, when we've specifically said NOT to call on the advert. Obviously can't read properly or follow directions. Twisted Evil

I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that one. The best resume in Khorerea Laughing

I laffed and laffed at most of you lot for some seiously funny stuff. If you cant laff at yourself then you shouldnt be laffing at others.
Everyone has their perks and quirks and I can see em in myself and other people every day.
What about a thread on whose been fired for the most ridiculous reason while teaching ESL?
I was fired in Taiwan for allegedly not teaching with the teachers supply of student book which I could never find anyway so just used one of the kids in class. Came to the conclussion that any trumpted up reason will be used by the boss in order to save face.
Is it normal for Canadians to spend much their time "dissing" each other? Is it a cultural north american thing? Cant help but ask cos its real weird to see it here time after time and nobody explains why it happens. Im a kiwi and would say that it isnt a strong feature of New Zealand culture.

And here I thought they fired you because you're illiterate.

I'm curious to know who added the subject line I deleted in my first edit of this post. I never use the subject line, so someone else did it.

I know it's a little off topic, but...

I used to take applications for a hotel in the states. I photocopied some of their credentials for laughs. The funniest one was from a guy who came into the hotel at 3am one night and asked the night auditor if he could sleep on the couch in the lobby or stay in a room for free.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CONVICTED OF, OR PLEADED NO CONTEST TO A CRIME?

tresspass, public dist, unlawful entry

Job title

Sales

REASON FOR LEAVING

Incident

Job title

Customer service advisor

REASON FOR LEAVING

discrepancy with an employee

On his way out, he told our auditor

"I'm gonna have your job man, you wait!"

The funniest/freakiest guy I dealt with was in Taiwan. The owner brought him in and toured the school and then introduced him to me. We spoke for about ten minutes about the NFL (American football) and that was it. I go downstairs and he is signing a contract. My Taiwanese co-worker says that the principal saw me interview him and it went very well (The principal/owner spoke about 20 words of English.). This guy turned out to be a FREAK!!!! He started telling me after about 2 days on the job that he had a huge collection of porn from Thailand on CD and that the rice mat hurt his *beep*!! After a month he demanded that they fire him and to that firing he replied that he was doing the school a favor and that he could simply leave and go back to Thailand and watch porn all day in a hotel for $20 a day! Good job threat! I Yahoo'ed his name a few months later and it popped up on a bondage discussion group where he was looking for spanking partners and the sort!
All kinds in Asia, all kinds.
