DUNE DID NOT SUCK and I have it on my laptop for watching again and again when I am on the treadmill. Likewise with Blade Runner. BLADE RUNNER DID NOT SUCK EITHER. WTF??

I thought that the way Dune ended with a rain shower was of cheese, and the voice over in Blade Runner was too of the mushroom/fungus kind, but the two were tours de forces of cinema, Common!

Am I gonna get some support here, or what! (any jock strap or wonder support jokes are gonna make me fume, mind!)

Startship Troopers did suck. The acting and the random plot shifts were so bad that it made me spew, though as a general rule I sit through most all SF movies to the end no matter how much they suck at the front.

Eraserhead sucked for me for all time, though. David Lynch has these huge hits/misses that he must be on very tasty drugs (that he won't share with me) apparently.

edit: I saw someone's av for Fifth Element and it reminded me of the worst SF movie I ever saw, that fifth element (although we could probably dig up a lot of B SF movies that sucked of a major kind).

Good god. I don't know how to react to this..

I started with a grudging acceptance Dune, swung to whole hearted agreement, Blade Runner, doubted your sanity, Starship Troopers, understood where you were coming from, Eraserhead, and finished with a certainty that you have a large stick gone missing in the area of your rectum, Fifth Element.

How can you be so stunningly right, and so astoundingly wrong in the space of one post??

Blade Runner was a great, great movie vastly improved in the director's cut. Who the hell bought the 'happy drive in the country' ending? Maybe those who say they hate it are talking about the original version?

Dune sucks in comparison to everything else Lynch has done, and was hugely disappointing after the books. Lynch is still saying that it was the one movie in which he didn't have final cut, and it shows with narration filling in large gaps that make the whole thing disjointed (and you hate Starship Troopers for "random" plot shifts??). Still a homicidal Sting, floating fat guys and a blue eyed McLachlan riding big worms was good compensation.

Eraserhead was an experimental art film and is not for everyone. It's great for what it is, but never intended for mass consumption. Lynch is a Jungian film maker, much like Cronenberg, but he likes to be deliberately obtuse. This makes his films a unique film experience compared to those who outline everything that's happening, and then make sure you understand what happened at the end so you don't get all confused and angry. All Lynch's movies have been awesome with only two lapses, Straight Story (for Disney) and Dune.

I think people are being a bit earnest in taking a dislike to Starship Troopers and The 5th Element. They're good B-grade fun, and it's all they were intended to be. So what?

And how come no-one else hates Philadelphia, otherwise known as the World's Worst Movie??

Ruffie,

You haven't seen 'Beyong Valley of the Dolls'?

Plan 9 from Outer Space isn't even the worst movie that Ed Wood was involved with (check Orgy of the Dead if you don't believe me).

So, yeah, there's worse.

I've seen movies that were so bad, few people have even heard of them. For example, ever heard of "Howling: New Moon Rising ". Not a single werewolf, or actor for that matter, are to be seen in this movie. One of the very few movies I was nearly unable to force myself to watch from beginning to end.

"Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" was actually quite entertaining.

No votes for "Ginger Snaps 3"?

Did anyone see Meg Ryan's first movie after her fall from grace for that fling with Russell Crowe....it was called "In The Cut". Even her nude scene didn't make it worth enduring.

I liked "Polyester." Funny stuff- now, "Pink Flamingos"- don't see it right after eating. The "singing a--hole part was BAD.

Roger Ebert, of course.

Then again, Ebert gave "Perfume" a perfect review.
