No, Sleepy_in_Seoul, it would not. That does not represent my position. I will accept that you are genuinely interested in exchanging views on the American healthcare system and its problems and promise, however.
But if you want to seriously discuss the issue, I suggest you look for serious informants and information.
Let me start with this: why would you embrace a Michael Moore film, or enter a thread and attack someone who attacks Moore's manipulative tactics and America-hating, antagonistic style when you could get serious proposals from serious Americans who might actually position themselves to work for real change that all Americans can achieve together rather than divided into the far left's hostile, Marxist-inspired camps (e.g., "us against the corporations" or "'the people' against the State")...?
Why not start with a Hillary Clinton talk on this issue? You ask about my views. Both the Clintons have tended to closely represent my views on most issues in American affairs since the early-1990s.
Let me restate that...

Do discussions like Moore's film and those it inspires like the one OP proposes on this thread lead to that point, Sleepy_in_Seoul? |
I don't believe that I have said anything about embracing Michael Moore or his ideas, and I have definitely not attacked anyone in this thread. Where did you get those ideas from?
Do discussions on this board ever lead anywhere productive? I had hopes that someone may want to answer my simple question however, and (eventually) it did happen. Thank you.
I might wait until my hayfever settles down before I start a reasoned discourse on the pros and cons of American healthcare though. |

With respect to the United States and its politics? No.
But if you are truly interested in this issue, and you seem to be, I would advise you to check out Hillary Clinton (I believe this is a real issue for her and not merely the politician's "issue") and also check out the data and studies she usually references.
That is where you will find credibile information and people genuinely interested in solving problems, healthcare-related or otherwise.

This thread was pretty productive. But its hard to pass 30 pages when people are contributing and listening to one another. |

You didn't watch Sicko, did you?
Hillary Clinton took in the second most cash from Health "Care" lobby, after Rick Santoram.
Real credible.
Who kicked off the HMO system? None other than Tricky Dick. That part of the movie I think made the most people shudder.
To think that the legacy of that grease ball is still being felt in America today.
come out of your gopher hole and see the light. |

Thats why I feel OBAMA wont win, we will see another bush vs Al gore senario and mccain is going to win mysteriously. to many special interests groups in America who dont want true democracy. America is suppose to lead by example etc.. instead of helping there own people they help others with special interests group funded ventures abroad..
BILLIONS go to AID!! hundreds of billions!
Koreans are no different! they demonstrate on the streets of seoul against us beef! meanwhile millions die with due to no health insurance!
ummmmm why not protest something which actually benefits the people? |

The benefits of socialized medicare are over-rated IMHO.
Why is it that Canada has such a huge shortage of doctors and has to resort to importing people from India, South Africa or other parts of the world? Why do most of the Canadian med-school graduates flee to the big bucks jobs south of the border?
Why are there huge waiting lists for operations (some cases over 6 months) where patients have been known to die waiting for their turn?
I am not envious of the American system at all however. I think it is largely overpriced, profit-driven and self-serving.
I do find the Korean system better than both.
Even if you don't have insurance here, you can get medical service and it won't cost you a second mortgage on your house.
Of course, I haven't had a serious medical concern since I've been here, so perhaps my opinion would be different if such were the case.
I haven't heard of people being denied service here because of lack of health insurance, if such is the case then I take back what I stated earlier.
Perhaps I haven't been looking very hard. |
