Of course I do. In fact, I'll be flying there after Christmas (or might wait until after the New Years Day football games) to stay with my favorite girlfriend until it's time to come back and plant crops. How often do you go?

Oh, well pardon me; of course I should have known you're a frequent flyer to Vietnam. Rolling Eyes

So one of your favorite girlfriends lives there, eh? Another egalitarian rake to the rescue! Just what Asia needs: more Western men on the sleaze circuit. Tell me, does she have a name or just a number in your little black book?

Totally unnecessary and uncouth response.

Let's get this conversation out of the gutter.

I'm sure your Mom brought you up better than that.

Sounds like you really care about her as a human being.

In any case, what does this level of detail on your personal life have to do with this thread?

Oh, really? Well, no one asked him to divulge his private affairs. And when someone gloats about a dame in every harbor, I will take umbrage.

Now do issue forth a gutteral rebuttal.

There's a simple explanation for that: The Vietnamese won.

You don't moan over a war you won.

And the fact that the Vietnamese gov't doesn't base its legitimacy on standing up to the evil West. Contrast that to Iran, or Nasser's Egypt. Both of those countries could claim "victory" over the West, but still bashed it to hide their inept rule. Consequently, a lot of animosity towards the US (and/or UK) remained.

Vietnam followed this route as well, but finally got its act together when it saw China's progress in the 80s.

And I do think culture plays a role too.
