It's a fcking joke when you look at the bigger picture. Fiveeagles, you make me sad. |
It's amazing how many people judge me without even knowing me.
I have an amazing family with a beautiful family.
Awesome friends and have had a tons of great times.
We give to charity and help the poor.
I have seen so many of the children I work with smile and have become better people.
My life is filled with respect, honor and love with the people I work with.
I work hard and am chasing my dreams.
And that is why Canada and the US should be a nation under God. Because these are the values that we stand for. |
Just out of curiosity, do you teach English? Santa help your students if you do. |

This is insane. How does the bolded sentence follow in anyway from the sentences before.
My sister and my mom could write the exact same sentences..my mom is a staunch catholic and my sister is athiest. The last sentence just does not follow and is insulting, which was the intent I assume. |
No, it's not fully Christian to follow these values however it is fact that Christians are much more generous than the secular left.
Christians, as a whole, try to follow lives of love. That is their mandate and what they believe they will be judged by. A principle in which a nation should be built upon, right?
What does a secular nation stand for? |

Creator is not ie God.
"Creator" is an example of appropriately ambiguous language unlike the word "God." God implies a supernatural being, while Creator could mean something natural or supernatural. It could be Allah, an alien civilization, the process of evolution, or your mom. The founding fathers (mostly deists/closet agnostics like Jefferson) knew exactly what they were doing when they could have just as easily used the word "God."
It is only in more recent times the use of the word "Creationists" has caused us to associate the words create and creator with something more supernatural. |

Why would you assume my sister is on the left and how do you know that a christian would be more generous than her?
You are fudging. Those values are perfectly compatible with a good person not just a christian person.
I've known lots of christians that are complete bastards, and athiests who are bastards too of course.
You should say "ordinary decent people as a whole try to follow lives of love". You didn;t say that as your purpose is to offend.
A secular nation would just seperate God from the state. |

First Joshua Hirtle's joke, now yours.
I never realized theists had such a peculiar sense of humor.

If I were claiming that religious skeptics were more loving than anyone else, I would say that you had a perfect grievance.
If you ever met me in real life, and if I tried to sell you a diet program, you would probably laugh in my face. Same principle. |

Ok, but it would be even better if people were generous and "followed lives of love" because it was simply the moral thing to do, not because they believed they would go to HELL if they didn't act that way.
Let's not forget also that they believe they have a mandate to spread the gospel. Well, it makes it a lot easier to spread if you give something first, like a bit of charity to someone in need. That does not totally discount the real good that some Christian organizations actually do, but it does pollute the integrity of the action when said Christians believe they are gaining their ticket into heaven by giving charity. Yes, it is still sort of a win-win situation (even if there is no heaven to go to), but it's also slightly delusional. Giving feels good, and most people don't need to believe in a mandate or fear of punishment for it to feel good.
There are plenty of charity organizations (USAID, etc.) that are completely secular, and do not feel the need to fill the recipients' heads with fairy tales while believing they are bargaining their own way into heaven. |

I would say the secular organizations are also better because, in proportion they accomplish a lot more. Who will improve the quality of life more, someone who gives food and birth control or someone who gives food and tells people that condoms give you aids and you'll go to hell if you use them? |

I think the difference is that Christians have a mandate to love. Do all do it...no of course not, but most do.
Whereas athiests...really what is it's mandate? If you come from apes...there really isn't much to stand for, is there? Seriously though...if America was an atheist country...what would it stand for? To advance the human nature through the use of genomes so that it can overcome death without the boundaries of morality? |
