The sponsorship agreement does make you responsible (financially) for your spouse. This can have some implications should the couple break up for example.
As for proof of income, none is required now but rumblings around the public sector water cooler (ie where I work) is that the government is discussing the idea of making sponsorship more difficult.
What is clear is that to sponsor someone you need to be married already and that this is far simpler than sponsoring a common law partner. |
