While I am a big believer in variety, this may be one of America's few just sex laws. |

14 years for writing love letters
Maryland case sets precedent for sex crime cases without evidence of physical acts

A 38-year-old Columbia educator was found guilty Friday of sexually abusing a third-grader by writing her dozens of explicit love letters, setting a new precedent in Maryland for a sex crime conviction without evidence of inappropriate physical contact.
Howard County Circuit Court Judge Diane Leasure ruled that Karl Marshall Walker Jr., who worked as a paraeducator at Bryant Woods Elementary School for three years, sexually exploited an 8-year-old girl by giving her notes that spoke of his passion for her, his desire to kiss her and his request that she keep their correspondence secret.
Sexual acts are not only limited to physical acts, Leasure said. The totality of these letters, the hugging and the hand holding were exploitative. |

Love letters? Come on fellow...I've seen some shockers from you but this is definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel. A grown man has no business writing a single love letter to an eight year old child. Let alone dozens of explicit ones. |

| WTF is wrong with you? Defendants don't get that much time for actual rapes! But thanks for letting us know that 14 years for writing a letter is ok by you. |

It wasn't just one letter bacasper. Nor was it just a letter. These were explicit sexual letters written to a eight year old girl.
If you don't think that is wrong... |

No, they were not sexually explicit, and I never said it wasn't wrong. A lot of things are wrong, like not putting a quarter in the parking meter, but should people go to prison for 14 years for it? |

Letters that speak about one's passion and the desire to kiss someone are not explicit and have nothing to do with sex? Since when?
Apparently the judge disagrees with you calling it sexual exploitation.
And not putting a quarter in the parking meter is entirely on another scale of 'wrongness' then an adult writing to an eight year old girl about how he loves her and wants to kiss her (sexually).
We don't have the same punishment for every crime because some are simply more heinous then others. |

OK, you support a 14-year prison sentence for writing a letter, got it. |

I'd have just castrated him.
His letters corrupted her. This isn't thought crime anymore. |

For all you know, she was flattered by the attention. One can only imagine what you'd like to do to rapists.
This has apparently become the bloodlust forum. |

You "got it" wrong. But that's usual. So let me spell it out for you. I support a 14 year prison sentence for such a pedophile. |

Yeah, such a "pedophile" who engages in no illegal pedophilic acts but merely writes letters, you support a 14-year sentence for. Got it.
Don't try to weasel your way out of it now. He was not accused of ANY illegal pedophilic acts. Nope, just letter-writing. Get it. |

Writing explicit letters to a child is illegal if the court system deems it to be so, just as smoking marijuana is illegal in California if the Feds decide to ignore state law. Law is not sacrosant it's political. 14 years may or may not be fair, and the law may or may not be just.
Exigente, make a case for why a grown ass man should not be punished for writing letters to an 8 year old about oral sex then. |

Letter-writing is not illegal. Writing "pedophilic" letters is. And no the charge against him was not "letter-writing". |

A hug is not sexual in and of itself, nor is it sexual abuse.
Hand holding is not sexual in and of itself, nor is it sexual abuse.
This quote from one of the letters:
| Quote: |
| I do think about kissing you sometimes. |
is very inappropriate, but unless there is something more, it is not sexual either.
If handholding, hugs and kisses are sexually exploitative, then every mother and father, well that is, every good mother and father that loves their children and shows it and even expresses it in writing is due for a 14 year prison sentence.
According to the evidence here: The teacher should have been fired. But, there are no grounds here for a conviction of any kind.
However, there is probably more evidence that was left out of the article. If there is any justice left, then there must have been some actual crime somewhere that the reporter forgot to mention.
It is the sexual perverts who are running the world now, turning every sign of affection into a crime. What are these perverts thinking?
If you automatically think that hand holding, hugs and kisses imply some sexual act then it is you who are a sexual deviant in need of some kind of psychiatric care.
The puritans of our historical past have returned. They have found a new world of witches and the burnings have begun. |
