LOL well when you listen to the lyrics to 'Ice Ice Baby', he's talking about doing a drive-by. Now he was faker than a 3 dollar bill, but still.
But 15 or 20 years ago, you wouldn't be hearing this MaxiPad BS:

Hence the Neptunes are (or maybe were, hard to keep up to date) some of the biggest producers in the game, having worked with an array of international stars. And you are, what, an English teacher in Korea? |
And Britney Spears is one of the biggest selling singers of all time. Doesn't make her good.
I'm just saying, me, or one of the kindgergarten students I used to teach, or the Rainman, could probably make a beat as good as the Neptunes in under 15 minutes. |

To fit your definition of good maybe.
To become internationally recognised as pioneering producers, I doubt it. |

people who are saying that Old school rap sounds out dated and old, I think you are so wrong.
the rappers of today are just regurgitating the old rappers with new beats and similar stories of getting out of the hood, or tapping that asss.
all the rappers of today grew up listening to the old rappers. I am not talking about run dmc, or the mid 80's pioneers,
but the mainstream rap, hip hop of the 90's. which dominated the charts and built the empire of Hip hop.
sure generations come and go. 10 year gaps, 90 to 2000s
2000-2010
I believe there are far more EPIC, LEGENDARY tracks from the 90's than from the 2000's
and if someone wants to disagree with me.. lets start a list. |

When you say 90's what years do you mean. I would say that when someone says old school I tend to think of 80's and early 90's. To me modern rap started around 93-94 around when Nas destroyed everything before him by dropping illmatic. To put it simply modern rap has a different, more complex flow that doesn't emphasize end rhyme as much as old school and uses more devices such as internal rhyme schemes and alliteration. The 2000's were great for rap. Jay-Z made his best albums, Cam'ron dropped Purple Haze, Kanye West came into his own, The Neptunes and other producers introduced more variety and influences to the beats, Tupac and Biggie released some great albums (joking, but only sort of) |

You are right, my friend. You got the lyrics down though.
Evidence said, 'mc s without a voice should write a book'
No lie. Too many wack mc s that sound like high school boys coming out of puberty, or too thugged out for their own good. |

I love the rap that I think is good.
People say the production is a lot better these days, but I don't see that at all. I think that the old stuff sounds a lot better.
The Neptunes beats are simple and boring. I could program that on the Casio keyboard I had when I was 9 years old.
I think that most modern rap not only sounds bad, but it's girl music. It's like listening to Debbie Gibson or Tiffany.
There's no way that Kanye or Timbaland can make anything that sounds this good and there's no way that 95% of modern rappers could flow like Treach in this song:

I mostly agree with you. But, you should probably listen to more hip hop if you're going to make a statement like that.
KW's stuff is BANANAS for the most part. He produces a lot more than most people are even aware of. You're probably hating because he's a booty rapper and sounds like a baby Jay Z. I thought his 808 and heartbreak was just ok. and his new album the same.
The NBN track is ok, but nothing mind blowing.
Treach, flowing? Sure, but I could still name dozens that are
nicer than that. I respect your opinion, but I still think you've got
some allegiance issues with your nostalgia.
I remember when I first heard OPP at a school party and
had my hand up this honey's skirt a couple hours later. Ya, I
miss it. THE TIMES.
Did you know they're still touring and making music? I get
exclusives from them all the time. I know their touring DJs. |

Ha. You could probably say that about most electronic or club music.
Hip hop albums have had a 'formula' for many years. Some people tow the line for A&R and some people like Chuck D keep it really REAL.
Has done more for hip hop than most anybody in the game.
Ice T. Sure, a pioneer. I still have the Make it Funky 12"
6 in the morn. Pioneer, but not great. Paved the way for a lot
of the E40s and Brother Lynch Hungs, west coast gangster rap.
Did you know he was from Jersey? |

Try this. Not quite as clear as the original, but still badass to the extreme.
