By the way, marriage does not destroy or prevent freedom or new experiences...

Marriage doesn't prevent freedom? So you can quit your job tomorrow and tell your wife and kids "Im going to Thailand, see you in month?" Your wife will let you have "new experiences" with new and interesting women?

I knew that was coming...I know this may be difficult for you to grasp but new experiences and freedom is not limited to "bagging new chicks" or "heading out to Thailand on a whim".

To each his own however and I see it is useless to try and explain what i meant further based on what you responded. Laughing

Do you know what freedom means? It means you do what you want when you want ( contrained by legality and funding)- including bagging chicks, travelling and a whole bunch of other things. To say that marriage doesn't hinder freedom is just wrong. And Im not even saying marriage is bad, but it does lessen a man's freedom.

Uh do YOU know what freedom means?

It means freedom tomake choices.

So if a man chooses marrige he doesn't suddenly become 'less free.'

If he doesn't like the limitations imposed upon by him that set of choices, choices he made freely, he is still free to get divorced.

If the man chooses to divorce as you say, than he is no longer married and my point that marriage limits freedom doesnt matter. For good or bad when you marry and have kids you can't sleep or meet new women, you need to spend your money on certain things you didn't have to before, and you probably should act more responsibly than before in many ways. This limits ones absolute freedom.

Somewhere, in an alternate universe where people have 12 digits on their hands instead of 10, a cyberspace war is raging about 36 year old unmarried losers (or maybe that would need to be 48 year old unmarried losers... I dunno).

And OP, do you mean 40 international age, or 40 Korean age? Because this is really crucial stuff, you know.

Married guys are free to not wear condoms. They are free to have that extra slice of pizza because they aren't as worried about fitting into those sexy jeans. They are free to not shave for a few days on the weekend and still get lucky. They're free to fart in the room. Laughing

From a blog I was reading:

"Erich Fromm (philosopher) has an interesting idea about Western Capitalism. He defines two modes of being: to have and to be, and examines the characteristics and values of lives led in each mode with respect to materialism, politics, religion, spirituality, knowledge, love, sex, language and economics.

He asserts that modern living is dominated by the to have mode and generalizes it as a soul-less and thoughtless pursuit of material things that disrespects the human soul, love of nature and fellow humans and leads to unsustainable pursuit of things which can lead to poverty, war and extinction.

I can understand why he would think this way. Do you know in 1960 there were zero public storage sites? Today there are over 200 million square feet of public storage space available worldwide."

I came here in the early 2000s. Me and my friends were cool; aged around 30.

I have some friends from that time still here. Now we're approaching 40. I got married, had a child, bought a house, car, etc. But I've got friends still living like college.

If you're 40 years old living like college (no family, no real assets), you're not cool any more. You've become a loser. You should really go home, and get going with your life.

It's too sad for me to say to my "was-cool" friends, but really at a certain age you become a loser (like those Sex the City 40+ singles).

I remember when I got here, passing some old-timer thinking; "what a loser." Now I see that look on people I know

I'm 34 and have a house in states paid for in cash and plenty of other assets. I am still in Asia with my wife. Very Happy
If your not retired at 40, YOU ARE A LOSER!

Don't worry, No_hite_pls and Whose Your Daddy? are really siblings.
I saw their Mom in the local library:

Just kiddin. The way things are going, I don't think I'd mind still having a job here when I'm 40 (not too soon) as long as I have another half to put up with me.
