Lashing out at complete strangers involves the first thing that comes to mind. When you don't know someone on any level, their different appearance/nationality is the obvious thing to target.of course if you'd been friends with that french person for years and had an argument, you'd be attacking him based on his personality/behavior rather than the way he looked.

"racism" is a strange thing. When I was growing up in Africa, apparently we were the most racist people out in the minds of foreign western tourists. However many of these brief visitors became the most extreme racists by the end of their vacation, once exposed to a new environment.
When you have 2 cultures colliding after millenia of separate development, there is first conflict and separation. Then, one dominates the other. Later bonds start to form and they begin to mix. A code and way of living together comes about. Ultimately the two merge and exchange from eachothers cultures whatever each deems to be useful. it may take centuries. as far as i know..normans and anglo-saxons didn't intermarry or speak the same language until about 1000 years had gone by.
the modern western ideals of equality etc are good to aim for, but quite unnatural in the usual scheme of things. People discriminate. Where would you be if you didn't? |

This thread reminds me of a French movie I saw quite a few years ago. Forget the name. But anyways, a well off French guy has a REAL bad day. Loses his job, girlfriend etc.......he meets a guy he knows only from work, a happy go lucky type, poor, works in the mail room. The guy invites him home and being really numb, wanting to get away from things, the rich guy goes.
They go to the banlieu, big high rises. Working class poor. They walk into the apartment. The guy lives with his father who is holding a party. He just got onto the social security list!!!! First cheque arrived!!! He is with friends and they start talking about the "fuckin" arabs in the neighbourhood -- some who are playing their music too loud outside. The rich guy says, "but hey , this guy your friend is Arab!"., pointing across the table. And he replies, "Oh but I've known him for years, he's okay!" And then he asks, "what about him?". Pointing to another friend. He replies, "Oh , he's okay, wouldn't hurt a fly..." and so on with another 4 guys in the room.......
Meaning, racism, all the imagined "other" is but pure fantasy and a lack of experience in meeting people truly as human beings..........same goes with all the anti-immigrant, bs......

i kinda agree with billy. i reckon racism is inherent to our way of thinking, and the trouble starts not with being racist, but by 'kicking downwards'.

I can't remember who corrected me, but thank you. What I meant to say was:
There are countless times where I hear discussions (or participate in them) regarding things such as, "most crimes are committed by blacks", "most people that speak with the "dawg, yo money, ebonics language" are, statistically, from a lower social class, have a lower level of education, etc. I hate to say it, but to a certain extent, it is true. I am from South Florida and am considered a "minority". So, if anyone has a pot to piss in, it would be me on this topic. Allow me to list a few things that I have heard throughout my years (and please feel free to expand or elaborate on these thoughts):
Mexicans tend to be more obvious when googling at a women
Mexicans tend to make up more of the manual hardcore labor workforce
Blacks tend to have the highest number of lower educated people
Blacks tend to have the highest crime rate of any ethnicity
Whites tend to have the highest amount of Serial Killers of all the ethnicities
Whites tend to have the highest percentage of white collar crimes
Cubans tend to be the most "protective, jealous" of all the groups
Puerto Ricans tend to be the most violent and confrontational of all the hispanic mixes
Columbians tend to be label as the "drug dealers"
Brazilians tend to be labeled as the "hottest"
Chinese people tend to be labeled as having the dirtiest food
Koreans tend to be labeled as the "smartest" when it comes to academics....
Please add more or discuss the one's listed. |

ah yes. I read his post. Interesting. Seriously though, you are telling me you never heard any of this before? I am not saying I said them, I am saying I heard them throughout my years. Taking different courses in the university really opens one's mind. |

You are discussing culture, not race. Eugenics or anthropometry went out of fashion years ago and I don't see it happening in the near future. So many people confuse the two and I do think most of the racist crap is but bad painting by numbers...
