Apparently, she made the comment that, when on a date, if they are at Starbucks and the guy uses a discount card, she totally loses interest. She feels that if a guy tries so hard to save a buck, then she's not interested in him, because he shouldn't care what the cost is when he takes her out.

Well hate to braek it to ya Ms. Kim, honey, but you ain't nearly hot enough that I'd be interested. Maybe if you were to buy me something nice. Thank god I'm not married to something like that.

Yah, it's not the best photo of her. Actually, I wasn't sure who she was, so I hope I googled right. Not anything I'd skip a discount at Starbucks over!

Thailand and SE Asian countries are no.1 in people trafficking, and their innocent young women are an annual harvest to traffickers who buy these children from poverty stricken parents or simply kidnap them. These girls are held and trained/forced into prostitution. They end up exported all over the world, or staffing the bars of tourist hotspots, their earnings going to their minders and so on.
Unlike the westerners (inc. ESL teachers who should know better) who descend on Thailand to ravish this stolen youth, I refused to do so but instead donated money to a charity aimed at helping the casualties.

I see this thread has become an attack on myself, so be it. My intention was to draw attention to the problem and *beep* the consciences of western tourists, like many respondents on here who think its all entirely cool and acceptable to exploit them, never mind paying to marry them.

I'm not against people marrying asians, far from it, and i quite see that its possible for there to be a genuine and happy marriage with a Thai although this is rare indeed.

But for the most part, its a case of westerners marrying hookers or ex hookers and every last one saying he met her in the library and that she was a company exec at the time or whatever.

Think about it. Most thais don't speak english and a real Thai woman is very demure. She would not approach a man let alone a westerner, or try and chat him up in English. If a thai woman comes running at you in bangkok speaking English and telling you you're sweet and handsome..think for a moment Exclamation

as for women globally speaking wanting to marry up, yes its a fact. If you're happy to parasitized for your paycheque or whatever, fine. If however you think its possible for 2 people to make it based not on exploitation but on chemistry, love, a genuine connection, then you might be pleasantly surprised to find that it can happen. Regardless of wether you're a financial manager or a streetsweeper. The biggest love/obsession of Madonnas life was an unemployed and penniless ordinary guy off the street. think about it.

Why do I get the distinct impression that you feel insanely jealous of white guys who married a LBFM and nevertheless came out of life way ahead of you?

Oh, now I get it. You're just joshing us. Very Happy

Good one.

No one could be stupid enough to believe the above cliches or place the blame at the feet of westerners...

haha Laughing You have some examples do you? maybe try here for some of the millions of ridiculous sob stories.

If you're inadequate to the point of paying some poverty stricken girl from the 3rd world to do what nobody else will, why would that be something to be jealous of?

Westerners help to perpetuate it. i don't know wether you're stupid or not, but maybe if you ventured away from your holiday cottage in Phuket you would know the background these girls come from.

http://www.humantrafficking.org/countries/thailand

"Widespread sex tourism in Thailand encourages trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation...-the estimated 200 thousand to 300 thousand sex industry workers in the country were either underage or in involuntary servitude or debt bondage."

Close your mind all you want, but don't pretend to be smart in the process. I recommend you have a read here...

I didn't realise this chatforum was so full of obstinate idiots.

Nice assumption; in keeping in line with most of your other assumptions.

My wife is actually from Isaan (i.e. Northeast Thailand), this is where I lived and this is where probably most of the prostitutes in Thailand come from. Along with the North.

And I also spent quite a bit of time over the years in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Phuket and other places within Thailand.

So I don't need to believe the tripe that some guy on a Korean board spouts, or buy the bullshit that NGO's and the western media cite to justify their continued funding or sell papers and advertising to a gullible and easily 'inflamed' western public...

Anyone who really knows Thailand knows what you're saying is tripe.

If anyone wants to know what Thailand is about, don't listen to this joker Julius; the first place you should hit is www.ajarnforum.net and join up on their messageboard.

There's literally 100's of years of culmulative Thai experience from guys and gals who have lived and worked in Thailand, have Thai husbands/wives and kids, etc...

Apparently, she made the comment that, when on a date, if they are at Starbucks and the guy uses a discount card, she totally loses interest. She feels that if a guy tries so hard to save a buck, then she's not interested in him, because he shouldn't care what the cost is when he takes her out.

This ignited a firestorm of discussion on Korean websites recently, with men and women fighting over both sides of the issue. There is a lot of concern about these "princess" types who spend every dime they can get on plastic surgery, clothes, etc., for the one sole intention of catching the richest guy possible. Sounds like old hat to me, but apparently, it's getting so bad that netizens are coining new words based on it.

I made a thread about this matter which quickly died with zero response. Embarassed Anyway, here it is again.

In North America I'd raise a mighty sneer but it just seems to me Koreans have made their bed and this woman is brazenly trying to lie in it. And people are surprised?

Anyone know of any Korean actresses that aren't washed up after age 28 or relegated to the Home Shopping Network or being only offered roles like "Second Cackling Booth Ajumma" in movies? She needs to marry well to maintain the lifestyle she's grown accustomed to. No surprise.

Insofar as her being a role model for many Korean women, again, no surprise. Women are told their duty is to marry, quit their jobs, raise children, and care for their in laws. How many women find they hit a glass ceiling career wise when they hit their early 30s? I know a couple 30something Korean women that sincerely believe if they ever lose their current job, they'll never work again because they're 32 years old. So, if society is not going to employ you after age 30, what are your options? You want to raise kids and care for in-laws in a little apartment in Northern Seoul? Or a nice spread in Gangnam? You want to find the richest guy possible.

And seriously in North America, lots of women would consider it a major faux pas if you used a coupon on a first date. It's not necessarily women view the guy as a walking checkbook. They just view it as a small sign of a larger potential problem. A guy who uses a coupon on a date will probably be greedy in bed.

Ya, imagine showing up for a date back home and handing her your bus card. Hey, I'm paying tonight Wink
