Just been thinking of ways of spicing up my 1st and 2nd grade HS students after school class as they were very impassive during the last 2-hour lesson.

So, wanting to make more use of the resources available to me, I thought I'd run them this YouTube clip (footage of the fight between a herd of Buffalo, a pride of Lions and a crocodile) and illicit a "what happened next" type scenario with some strategically placed pauses.

Just wandered if anyone could suggest any other clips that might be useful for this type of thing and/or suggestions for rinsing a few more ideas out of this type of clip.

Thanks in advance.

You are using the most basic teaching technique for reading, prediction. For pre/post reading.

You can present any book and go with it. I often use many of the powerpoint and karaoke stories in my Book nook folder , click it in the batcave www.ddd.batcave.net

In particular, The eyebrow story works really well. After reading a couple slides together, get them to make a prediction. I also have in ppt, a series called, Finish it off. Students listen/read the powerpoint and then it abruptly stops. They then have to finish it off....I think this is in my teaching folder for download.

Videos? I don't like using video too too much because it is too visual for language learning though it seemingly keeps students "alive". But in your case it might be the anecdote. I would put on any video that has a storyline, lots in my video folders. How the world got mosquitoes is a great one.....so many videos, you will just have to scroll through them and use the stories....I just made little red riding hood, that would be a great prediction story . See it highlighted on the main page of efl classroom.
